Firstly, remember that Deus Ex is a game, a good game, and good games are made with things like player fun and game balance in mind. Even in a 'realistic' game, very rarely do everything obey the laws of science.
And in real life, there can be a difference in firepower and area effect. I am no army armourer or gun freak, but an explosive device, say a rocket warhead can be made in many ways to have desired properties for specific roles or general purpose. Bullet calibre alone do not guarantee high damage. Most gun freaks will know the difference between a properly 'spun' bullet in flight and unbalanced bullets. I shan't elaborate since I am not fully conversant with the theories.

Go for the ballistic protection, the stealth cloaking and the stealth running mods. Combat strength + high low-tech skill + dragons tooth = extreme damage.
When I met up with Walton Simmons at the oceanlab I simply switched on the mods and went at him before he could fire a single shot... If the engine had supported decapitation, his head would have lain some 2 feet away.
However using rifles and guns are even easier - good skills and a scope on a standard pistol is good enough for sniping!

indeed...high velocity FMJ rounds might reasonably be argued to do less damage to an unarmored target then a pistol, the would probably have a good chance of going straight through the target without transfering much energy to it...but i think that argument sorta sidesteps the issue. If you have a hole in your head of any fairly significant size you are going to die very quickly. 3 damage per round of 7.62mm FMJ is kinda silly when you think about it that way.
btw...geeze this wound profile makes me feel a little sick

With weapon mods it becomes more tolerable, but overall it's laughable how weak they made the assault rifle. You mean how laughably strong they made it... 2 bursts will kill with a few weapon mods, and of course, full rifle, maybe only adv, but who cares, it kills!!

Violence is the definate easy approach. In Deus Ex, it's not very hard to kill someone with a few pistol shots or 1 sniper shot in the head. Sneaking definately doesn't work! You get caught very easily. My favorite thing to do is to 0wN MJ12 commandos with the Dragons Tooth with full melee weapons skill, with +melee dmg (aug), with highjump/superspeed (aug). and power recirulator (aug). This will give 1 hit kills for virtually anything. You could even kill bots very easily with it. If your going to challenge a bot tho, turn on bullet protection (aug) and a bullet vest. BWahahahahah 1 hit kills! Noone can challenge the denton god!

Sneaking doesn't work? Depends of course with what you mean by sneaking, but I think I got all the way to VersaLife without killing anyone (minus the drugdealer is Mole People, but him only when I chose to). Used mostly baton, then trangs, prod and gas and possible mixtures of these. And no, I'm not bragging. That's simply the way I wanted to play it and get the most out of it. Killing option is just too easy and (big yawn) boring, IMO.

For sneaking - just go for the cloaking device, the silent run and the power recirculator nano-augs... It's allow you to run straight through their ranks without any of them ever noticing your precence. Just be careful around bots and proximity devices. I believe it'll fool commandos and agents as well!
tomi1kenobi on 9/6/2003 at 14:03
Erm, pardon me but the point of playing in that way escapes me;) If you just go around like Kasper The Ghost, doesn't that make things ' a bit' too easy? . As noted before, then it really boils down for your definiton of stealth, but as far as I'm concerned, DX isn't Thief in hardcore stylee. I fail to see why you should try some ultimate stealth execution, especially since with your augs it's very simple. No offense meant by this;) - DX IS very open ended.

I'd like to point out that *I* didn't play that way - and using stealth doesn't necessary mean that you let the bastards walk away!
However if you go for lowtech weapons it's rather important to be able to get close to your prey before they detect you! And for that the silent running aug is VERY efficient!
Besides capping one at a distance - turning ghost and run through their ranks to the other side and then start taking them out one at a time can be quite hilarious. They're pretty good at acting confused...
And no offense taken whatsoever... But if you notice - I've got a post saying that "going in shotguns blazing" is a cool way to go! ;)

Yeah, I was also thinking about that 'getting in to a better position and then raising mayhem' bit. Just forgot to add it to the post. It can bring forth some new and interesting:cheeky: ways of doing things. Personally, I always invested in speed aug. Handy for jumping and minimising falling damage. Closing in before going for baton or prod is basically a matter of timing and moving quietly. Or luring the prey closer:D And true, going nuts with guns can be fun, though if I were to play the game to start to finish I'd still choose silent, non-lethal way. Add some 'Oh, this is just too good spot to ignore bit of hell raising' factors, of course. Like, in Area51, where I send the bots after the two commandos+MiB. Or, in the part, with the greasels, karkians and Mj12s, also in Area51. Just hit speed+cloak, ran to the roof and alarmed the troops. Most of them ran downstairs, only to end up being attacked either by the creatures or their buddies. Surprise, surprise:p
