I remember, when playing Deus Ex originally back in the day, that it is actually incredibly hard, and while you do indeed have access to a wide array of weaponary, stealth is really the only option.
Attempting to play the game in the action style usually ends up with you low on ammo and health and a bit messed up. For a game that is about choice, it seemed to me that Deus Exd really was always just a stealth game, and attempting to fight your way through it is suicide...
Or am I wrong?

Once you get higher weapons skill it is a lot easier.

Violence? It's possible. First time I played it, I ignored stealth approaches. It was easy since you don't have to be sneaking around and lots of times, the enemy would end up hitting each other! But at the same time, you've got to have a steady aim and quick fingers to move about.
Stealth and violence has it's ups and downs and they both work equally fine but I prefer stealth since I'm not much of a gunner.

Yes the Violent Approach is an option. A very fun option. Especially when I start sniping off mechs with the missle launcher. Granted, I do also like the sneaking option, but it just doesn't have the same feel to it... especially when you get seen, the alarm goes off, and you have 50+ enemies-who-would-otherwise-be-dead after you...

No, you're wrong I'm afraid, Richard :)

Maybe its because I have no aim...but when I try to play Deus Ex action style for more than 2 minutes, Im battered, bruised and reloading.
The game as a whole, always seemed somehow built to encourage stealth, and it always seemed the best way to go to me.

Well, it depends on the "action style". Of course, if you fdirst run through the level, gather all enemies, and fight them then, it will be a bit tough on your side. But else, fighting is a useful way.
Stealth, shmealth. If someone thinks he can shoot me, we'll settle it right there.
Child of Karras on 22/5/2003 at 11:15
Yeah, it's either stealth or action. It's entirely up to you. Some people are just better at one that's all. I personally, couldn't handle myself. Even with my guns skills maxed, I'd be struggling that's why I always keep hotkey number 1 ready for...

NOTE: Holy shit! I never thought the baton in Deus Ex was REAL! :wot:

Hm, I have the knife on the 1. It is far much more fun to smash crates with the knife than with the baton. Nicer sound, (I imagine that it is) faster. ;)
But I got the prod on the 2 for the same purpose as you have the baton on the 1.
