I can jump on them, but cannot get to the end. Rapid jumping and rapid changing of direction is too difficult, and repeated reloading has become too tedious. I don't think Thief's physics are really intended for these "Lara Croft" style timed acrobatics.
I also had problems with Objectives in the first mission. The Objective about the Hardroot juice did not work. I think compound objectives are generally a bad idea unless the player absolutely has to do the first part to achieve the second. I achieved the second part, and although I had released the zombies, the first part of the objective did not work as the author intended, so it didn't tick off. Also I didn't get any in-game clarification on what to do to fulfill the Basso Objective - I believe a cut scene is supposed to have occurred, but it didn't happen for me.
There were some things in the first mission I really liked, but these problems have meant I couldn't finish either mission properly. :tsktsk:

For the people that are having trouble with climbing on things:
I've notice that by default the new mantle coding is disabled. Do you have the new mantle coding enabled? You'll need this on to climb correctly.
As for the issues with the objectives, I'll see what I can do.
EDIT: OK, I've made changes with the Ring and the Hardroot objectives.
The ring can be taken even with the auto body search off. You shouldn't be able to get in Yangus' Estate without the objective active.
For the Hardroot objective: I've made the zombie bait objective disappear if the player gives the juice to Hardroot.

In mission 1, I've completed all objectives except using the gem plaques and getting 4000 (I only have 3550).
I did the bit with the zombie bait and gave Hardroot his juice. I gave the thief guy his ring back. I got the Williams' necklace back.
I've run lap after lap after around the map and I still can't find out how to use the gems (I have all four). I can't locate any further loot either and I'm genuinely trying my hardest. I feel like I've missed big chunks of the map and am overlooking something, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
The only places I can think to look for loot are in a crate on a ledge at the warehouse and the safe in a secret room under some stairs, but both require keys and I don't know where to start looking.
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Okay, found a diamond bit on a ledge near GORT's Electronics. That gave me over 4000. Still not sure where an how I'm supposed to use the gem plaques.
I also noticed the author mentioning this is somehow happens in the same continuity as Rebellion of the Builder. I wonder when this takes place; before or after those splendid missions?
EDIT 2: Never mind. I missed one of the caves.
EDIT: Answered my own question about continuity when I finished mission 2. The ending very clearly establishes it occurs before ROTB. Major props for tieing all the ends up.

@ metal dawn
To be honest, this FM set kinda takes place in both before TROTB 1 and after TROTB 2. But TROTB 2 takes place after TROTB 1. :weird:

GORT,
First: Great missions! :thumb:

Second: How do I check I have the new mantle coding enabled?
You go to your Thief folder and open your cam_ext .cfg file and check to see if there is a ; in front of the New mantle command.....its all the way down under the 'game specific' section....it should look like this, ie without a ; (semi colon )....to disable / switch off New mantle you replace the semi colon, then of course save
; -------------
; game specific
; -------------
; enable new mantling code

I managed to get past that crystal jumping puzzle in mission 2, but it was not easy. Still an :ebil: puzzle!
The key things for me were:
1. (most importantly) Realizing that the crystals' physics/appearance is a little strange. They are not shaped exactly what they look like to be, so it's very easy to get stuck on an invisble 'edge' in front of them, and mantling onto them does not work. Once I started to make my jumps 'sooner' (from a little further away), things went much better.
2. To save a little time, do not make jumps between the crystals you can simply run to. There are 1-2 of these transitions. Learn where they are.
3. To mazimize the time you have for the whole thing, make the first jump so soon that the first crystal appears when you are in the air.
4. The last crystal stays a little longer than the others, so there is no need to panic getting off of it. I mean, don't dally around on it, but make a controlled turn and exit.

Secrets in Mission 1
Is it too early to ask for a list? In spite of having replayed this superb mission a few times I can't find more than six out of nine: four of the pre-ND version (wall under staircase, speed potion, drill, Williams' armory), plus the footlocker on the warehouse ledge and the toolbox on the high Mech walkway. I'd very much appreciate any further suggestion :D

I have 5/9 secrets, the same ones as yours except for the speed potion. Where can I find this? (playing on Insane!, if that makes any difference).
How much loot do you have? I am currently at 4520/4920.
