WHERE IS THE GNOME

Alternate:
Since I'm still considering options, I could also spend more time visiting and less time on the road, and end the roadtrip in Chicago. The plan being big-ass TTLG meet in Chicago on Saturday, October 6th.
Just an idea so far, as my main plan is still to go coast to coast, but if enough people are interested...

As it happens, I'll actually pass by Chicago this year, but in the wrong month - July. My wife is getting to meet up with her forum pals this time.

If I was planning this adventure, I'd stray off your straight line path across the US and go to the Grand Canyon. I would also recommend diverting to Niagra Falls if you have never been there.

I actually just removed Pittsburg and Philly in favour of Niagara Falls. If I can make some time to go and see that, then go direct to NYC, I'll definitely do.

I have my plane tickets! Sept. 20th to Oct. 8th in the US, then Oct. 8th to 13th in Monterrey, Mexico.

When driving from Chicago to Sandusky, try to drive along Lake Michigan. It will be slower than if you take the toll road (80/90) but what's the rush. If you have never seen the Great Lakes they are rather amazing and if you are not too hung over from the TTLG meet in Chicago do try to stop and dip your toes in those cold ancient waters. There are several parks you can stop in N Indiana and experience the miles of sand dunes that are protected around there. One particular area has more than 1100 different species of plants - some that are endangered. Not sure if you are into things like that but then I am a science nerd and get excited over slime mold.
