I'll have to slightly cull my own enthusiasm as well now that Dave has put the price into a bit more proportion :( I should be able to afford this, unless I get hit with some bills I forgot about next week. If I can still afford the flight and hotel booking once the mid-month bills are paid for, I'm good to go.
Fingers crossed!

You know, I was thinking, if you guys are serious about actually hauling butt over here, we could easily postpone this a couple of months or so. January is right around the corner, and to get cheap tickets is a bit of a problem with this short notice. With a two-three months more you'd get them cheaper. Also, TJK would get back from China - I'm sure he'd love to meet up with you all, too. Just a thought.

Oh bleh, Dave and Outie :( But if you'd like to come later, it's perfectly fine to move the meeting up a little (but that means then you'll HAVE to come! ;) )
We could have a smaller-scale meet, say a dinner or something, with the Finns in Jan - if people want to - and have the international shindig in March or so?

Seconded, January would be more or less a no-goer for me

Yeah, we could have a Finnmeet in Jan, but if people are seriously interested in doing an international meet, then we should definitely give people more time to book cheap flights etc - besides, the springtime would be nicer in terms of the weather, too. :)

I am seriously interested in coming, but I couldn't really afford it until around April.

Fixed! :) Another thread on the big meeting later. Start saving money, people! ;)
So where are we going Jan 12th, good ideas anyone? Some nice eatery in Helsinki, I presume?
Omega on 13/12/2007 at 13:22
I don't think I mind the date much. The ticket's cheap enough. But what are the best options for lodging? I saw that €16 euro hostel thing iggles linked to in IRC. Is that where we'll all be staying?
Jusal on 13/12/2007 at 13:49
Well, I'm most certainly coming, at least to the Finn-meet.

Omega, quick google found (
http://www.helsinkiexpert.fi/accommodation/) this. I think there are quite many moderate-priced hostels downtown.
Some of us Finns live in or near Helsinki anyway, and Morrgan, Vigil and Fade are staying at me & morbus' (remains to be seen how, since we have a tiny 2-room apt. :p )
I've been looking for a nice restaurant, and I think the best crash-course to Finnism would be Zetor. It's been a while since I've been there the last time, but back then the food was fabulous. ((

I'll make a table reservation for the Saturday evening, so if there are others who are planning to join us but haven't commented in this thread, holler quick! :)
