I cant even get HL1 models, let alone high-res HL2 models, and if I port this project over, id like it to be .. well .. high quality.
I think you need to save up for an upgrade, a developer must have a good computer to give quality to the work since that is what players want. :erm:

im working on getting a newer PC, one that is considerably faster, and works well with all that HL2 has to offer, but thats not for this discussion as of now. I am working on it, but it will have to wait for some more time...
Hackers home. Maybe .. something, like how he got so interested in Citadel to "hack" it anyways ... I can map myself, only thing I hate is how bad SS texture alligns, because most of the time,t hey are all off, and while my map redesign has helped a lot with allignment, its still not perfect. Redesigning Citadel enough to confront the necessities for living will be, quite frankly, a pain in the rear. Where can I put everything? In the empty areas? In the walls? Paneling? That actually gives me several ideas :)
Oh, and ive extendingthe level back out (yet again) with my new allignment and again, making okay progress. I hope you all like my allignments, their not pixel perfect to sshock, but to be honest, I don't want to be _that_ detailed, because some of the textures look better my way :) (not really, im just lazy)

i have 2 pre steam copies of hl1 but i really don't want to give them up,and I don't think I can email all of the files to you. Also could you please link the impartial map that you have I would like to see it.

I have HL1 pre-steam already, so I didnt mean to imply I didnt. I am still textureing, and their is a huge gaping hole right now, I need to finish touchups and then once I am decently content with it at that point, I will release it in a ZIP with a autorun batch file here in hopefully the next hour when I can
1: Close the gaping hole
2: compile maps, and make the dir structure
3: Check all my textures to make sure they are correct

Does anyone here have the pre-steam version of Half Life?
I have pre-Steam HL1, and no-Steam HL2.
Would a mod for HL2 require Steam? If so then something more open source would be preferable (what if Valve agree to disable people's HL games if they try to run an SS remake, after pressure from EA?)
I tried Steam - but over my dial-up connection I spent a whole day downloading updates, dealing with crashes and so on, and it never worked. It made me furious to have to do that with a game I had paid for (as a single player experience). So I gave away HL2, and got the no-Steam version. It was fun, but the game had some fundamental flaws that took away a lot of enjoyment.
E.g.:
Very linear.
How come you can throw unlimited alien ant-lion-queen glands?
Why does Gordon never ASK what is going on (my main question as I played through was - is the whole world like this, or have the Combine just taken over one city? The game ended (or rather, finished without ending properly), and I still had no clue what had happened. I had to read other people's views online. What kind of an incomplete experience is that? Just two questions asked by Gordon in thirty seconds would have given enough of an answer to satisfy me.
Sorry, rant over.
That was a joke right? :erm:

You can avoid updating from Steam on initial install, that is what I did. Just disable automatic updates in the menu, and it worked just fine, im still on old buggy version. As far as remakes and stuff, Steam has an off-line mode so you can use that, i am going to try and see how offline mode works. I do not think EA is going to pressure Valva about SS1, and besides, I dont think Valve can really do much about it anyways .. Im fairly confident im safe, but I already know when I say that .......
-- update --
I have a small version of what is "complete" at my site, (
http://www.geocities.com/kodan50/SSHLCP.html) so if someone wants to tell me how bad it sucks, feel free :)
Note that I used some high-res versions and the low-res versions of all the textures I can find, so people can see how they will look on Half-Life. Some high-res seem cartooney :/

I have never played SS1, so I just want to say this:
"God speed my friends, God speed"

Download and play it then. ;)

I finished mapping out the first portion of medical level up to where the keypad is that you have to punch in a code to get out, and since I could not find the durn door texture, i made my own, I am going to see what I can do about implimenting some kind of door in my level, I have no idea how I am going to do it, but now is the best time to do it.
So, with the first portion complete, I just need to clip some textures to more closely match SS1 and it should be good.
Also, I enlarged all textures to 256, so if I can get some high-res textures in, all I have to do is replace one texture, rather than having to replace each wall manually, so each texture can be easily upgraded once I can get some higher res ones going.
Oh yeah, has anyone made any models of monsters yet that I can experiment with? I want to see what I can do about putting a monster in and see if I can make it work, since I will have to do that anyways.
