I amj sure that HL1 has the complexity to have audio "logs", but it can't be in the same sence as SS1's multimedia device, it would be a point trigger, like where the disk is, to play the track. So, I believe that I would be able to have logs, just not able to carry with you, which is part of the issue id end up facing. I think it would be the same with HL2, so id definately would need to dance around that. I may also make my own variant of Doom3 version, but that wont be fort a long time, until I buy the game, and work with it, but logically, it would be the better fitting engine, what with the keypads and PDA'isque stuff it can do, but for now, until I reach a point where the project can expand, then I am going to stick to what I know at this point.

The Doom 3 engine is by far the best engine to do a System Shock remake in. You have practically half the work with the interface already done for you.

I guess when I decide to spend more money I will buy Doom 3 to try this on as well. Interface-wise it is probably going to be the cleanest port. It just wont feel right without some HUD modifications, but there has to be sacrafice, right? *sigh

Plus Doom 3 engine has badass lighting system for in-door games like SS1, could make it ten times creepier than both HalfLife engines combined.
You know what you could do? Wait a few years for the Doom 3 engine to be released for free. That way you can not only use a great engine, but you can release the remake as a stand-alone game; everyone can download it regardless if they have Doom 3 or not.
Waiting a few years is the far fetched part, by the way. :p

Here is another release. This version is for Half Life 2 only, as the HL1 release is needing more work. Not that this release is perfect, or anything ...
(
http://anyon.no-ip.org/Half-shock/Download.html)
That is going to be the page that I link all the downloads to, as im still working on a page on my server, as to not rely on Geocities to create a web page. With that said, I tested the files on HL2, all files should be there, howevfer with the textures, I used the originals, NOT my modified ones...
Feedback?
(Yes, a couple textures are missing, I know, this was a throw together, ive got work to do on the HL1 release, I don't have time to spend ALL DAY on the release of the second version ...)
Oh yeah, you can fall into the radioactive trench and not be able to get out, and its not set to kill you, another thing that im working on, JUST DEAL WITH IT...
Okay, im going to try and finish the HL1 release now...

I think you should just stick with using the HL2 engine really. It might make your life easier in the long run since HL1 and HL2 have enough differences that you'll be doing a lot of things twice.
There are a few times things seem a bit to closed in and some angles too steep, but really that might be completely accurate to SS1 which sadly I have yet to get working.
There's also a few places where the textures could use aligning, however on the whole it's looking really pretty neat. Running around it was a little disorienting at first, but that went away quickly enough, keep up the good work!

The texture allignment is accurate to System Shock's, I know a lot of textures could use reallignment, I must keep it true to the original, and im mapping for both half-life games because QuArK does not have a whole lot of support for HL2's VTF format, so it comes out hard to work with, that is why I need to map with the original, then its easy to "port" the geometry over. Also, ive complete the level work for the HL1 version, but im also needing to get to work soon, so that will have to be released tomorrow ..

SS1 works perfectly under the latest version of DOSBox.

It had been a while since I had tried, I'll get the new version and give it another shot.

The only problem I have with dosbox (and it most likely isn't it's fault, I'm just pointing fingers. :p) is the sound emulation of some games. Like Skyroads, the music is absolutely horrible to listen to compared to when I played the game on my much older computer.
But the sound in SS1 are emulated perfectly as far as I can hear. :)
