Don't have kids.
Another stupid remark from an idiot. You have proven one cannot have an intelligent debate with you because you are a nothing but a troll. So don't ever waste your time asking or challenging me to give you any type of thoughtful response - you have used up your three strikes in my book and don't deserve jack.

It wasn't a challenge. If you're using the word "newbie" to honestly try and offend someone (not to mention in a place where they clearly are
not a newbie), then you very seriously shouldn't have kids.
In terms of not being able to handle an intelligent debate, at what point in this thread did you even attempt to have one? Your very first post was attacking me for having an opinion. I don't believe that people who have opinions based on bias or the ramblings of others should have them to begin with.
My opinion (pro steam) is solid because I have had no personal problems with Steam. Throughout the entire thread, at no point have you voiced a reason to dislike it. And neither have many of the other people who post. I didn't say people who have problems with steam are retarded, what I said was "I think it's a safe bet to say that anyone who is biased against Steam for any reason, is a complete fucking retard." The keyword there is bias.

And I don't feel compelled to get into a tedious point-counterpoint with you or anyone else to "justify" myself to you (with "flawed argument", I am sure!) as to why I don't want to "opt in" to it. (And yes, I buy all my software, and I buy all my DVD's and CD's too - I don't "illegally download" them). Thus far, there have been plenty of other good games that I don't feel any void in my life for not having Steam-powered games on my computer.
Congratulations. You proved my point from the beginning.

Same here, you can't beat auto-updates, stability and ease of use. :)

I just bought Arx Fatalis over Steam, which can't be found in Australia. I've also gotten Deus Ex GOTY and Invisible War cheap. While I already had DX, this means I'll never need my CD again, and can keep it safe.

So, what happens when you need to format your HDD? Or move to a new one?

You mean with STEAM? It stores everything in your account. I've formatted several times and had no problems logging back in and downloading all the games I had before. I think you can do backups to even cut down the process, but it's so hassle-free I never even bothered.

That feature is great for those with no traffic limit, I have 4 GBs quota per month which is very little compared to the size of today's games.

But seriously, I feel sorry for you.

It took me just over an hour to download Arx. The authentication (decryption) for Half-Life Anthology (HL, OP4, BS and TFC), for which I have a DVD, was only a few minutes at most. Best is that those contain all the music on the HD, so no need for the disc when playing.
