Why would the HL1 engine be an improvement over Dark engine? IMO Dark engine looks better than HL1!
It reminds me of my bro showing me some goofball HL1 Doom map that looked like ass compared to what the Doomsday folks have pulled together with their own engine.
System shock was made in 1994 a long time before dark engine. are you confusing this mod with system shock 2?

More continuing support, I love you guys!!
Ive scrapped together a few more walls. I took the day off today to map as much as I could, but had a late start cause of weatheral conditions, my appologies.
On a more inportant note: the game is running a bit sluggish now, it seems to be dropping in framerate around the bigger areas. I don't know why. I guess its just how complex the design is, even if its just blocks... I dunno.
On a more humoric note: I played what I have done underwater. That was awesome, and I think that I am going to make some kind of underwater segment, like something tied into the game. I have been planning that since I thought of what Gamma grove should look like. I don't think I could make it as good as it can be. Any takers?
I am going to try and cram a few more rooms in the next hour or so, then update what I have and wait for the feedback on suggestions.

If you are mapping with the HL1 engine, maybe you are stressing what it can do, or you aren't optimizing as well as one could.

Do you have any webpage for your project ? Are there any actual screenshots for your project ?

Wow the screenshots look really good. I'm really looking forward to this and even if it isn't a SS1 Port i still hope it is fun to play.

1. Most people who own HL1 own HL2. Those who don't probably aren't the people we want playing this anyway.
2. For those who don't, it's a whopping $30 for the bare pack, and it contains one hell of a game.
3. The bigger packs have things like Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, and so on.
4. Source has a shitton of awesome mods out and coming out.
5. You DON'T need a bitchin' computer to run it.
6. The engine is way, way superior.
1. Not I.
2. That's $20 more.
3. This matters to the home of the mod why?
4. Yeah, there is a shitton of awesome mods for Half-Life 1.
5. Better then what I have, which can run HL1 like a dream.

To be fair, this mod is for both versions of Half Life. Half Life 1 has the barebone construction, while Half Life 2 is going to have the physics, as well as the graphical enhancements. If you cant afford a new PC for Half Life 2, then just play it with the Half Life 1 version, its no real issue that is worth arguing over. Besides, I will probably have the Half Life 1 version done and complete WAY before I attempt to make the mod complete for Half Life 2.
As for knocking things over, my view is this: Beat the servbot over with a pipe and watch it role around struggling to get up, then walk up to it, kick it, watch it roll, it just seems like most shocker's dream is to have physics incorporated into an already awesome game to give you the upper hand on some of our favorite enemies, while they go for a ride with their new ehancements, graphical upgrades, and whatnot. You may not be looking forward to the new physics that Half Life 2 will bring, but it is okay, cause as long as you have Half Life 1, you can still enjoy (some) of what this project hopes to bring.

He was talking about the Source engine, not Havoc 2.0.

Unless you're fourteen, $20 really isn't that much. And buy Half-Life 2, you won't regret it.

The point of my post was to chime in and say, hey, I'm another person who won't use Steam for the time being, and haven't seen any good reason to change that stance.
That's because, newbie, discussion on Steam and pros and cons of using an engine "tied" to it is relevant discussion to this thread. The reasons that you or I will or won't use Steam is a seperate debate, and should be in a seperate thread.
My post saying I don't use steam is no more or less a "waste of time" than your hostile posts saying that not only do you use it but that anyone that doesn't is a retard. Get it? I doubt it.
You said, "I don't care if you feel it a waste of time to get into an actual discussion about it...". Well, sweetcheeks, the way you have with words is not "discussion", and I don't see why, even in another thread debating why some of us won't use Steam, I should waste my time telling you anything - you just keep continuing to namecall and insult. That isn't discussion. Neither is your flamebait, "in my book you still lose for not having the balls to attempt to even back up your argument". Do you realize, Cinderella, that I have debated Steam and my use of it or not, in depth in other threads? No? I'm not surprised. But you calling out my balls or lack thereof certainly doesn't endear me to rehashing those old points with you of all people. Do you really think I care for one second if I "lose in your book"? Think carefully - and you might get the correct answer.
Point is that there are plenty of folks that don't and/or won't use Steam - and that point is relevant to the thread and might hopefully have some influence on a choice of "engine". The whys an wherefores have been rehashed over and over again and it boils down to you use it and others don't. Accept it and quit being the 14-year-old l33t dood with your degrading writings.
Cheers,
Martek
