I do kinda think that the context of the Deus Ex / Thief games and narratives are kinda entirely different. Going 100% non-lethal in Deus-Ex might be noble, but it's a bit weird, given that you're 1st response, sanctioned to use force by officialdom for at least the first half of the game and often find yourself in extreme situations that involve fire-fights. Obviously you can and respect is due, but it's going above and beyond.
If a thief kills someone you're not a thief anymore, you're a murderer. And if you start killing a bunch of people you're a mass murderer. Which is a bit creepy to be honest. Playing non-lethally at least most of the time is a pretty good fit for the game narrative.

Didn't take long for him to join up with all the "knee jerk reactionaries" that he's been ripping on incessantly for the past month.
You really are simple minded.

You're kind of a nutjob and you're just trying to stir shit up. There's no need for any kind of truce, and there certainly isn't any hint of one in the thread you linked to. Isn't there a Ultima board you should be posting on somewhere? Think of all the fun you could have over there talking about Thief and it's origins.

What a truly sad and fractured community this poor Thief franchise enjoys. You are right, I should be getting back to the Ultima and MM worlds, where things are AWESOME.

I really don't know who is worse. Goldmoon, who is a quivering mass of frothing incoherence, or Brethren, who seems like a normal guy but just can't stay the good side of sensible for more than a few posts. At least with GD you know its going to be idiotic, its the "almost there, but not quite" one gets from Brethren that is odd. Like a good pal you just found out believes totally and completely in homeopathy or crystals or something.
Ahem. To clarify - I'm pretty optimistic in general. I treat people the same way - with optimism. So even when Thief seemed to be quite different from the originals I was prepared to give it a chance because it seemed like they really were sticking to the core principles. I didn't mind the smaller differences because we were getting a good core and some tech benefits like larger levels. Plus rope arrows were back. Thief was looking like that friend you only see so often and who gets a bit too drunk and handsy with your female friends, but who you know is actually a good guy who is funny, smart, loyal and not really a dick at all.
But then we learned about this bs explanation re: fixed rope arrow points. And now Thief will be on current gen too which means that any tech benefits will be purely cosmetic. I don't mind XP, I don't mind focus, all of that is fine because it shouldn't interfere with the core (old school mode) gameplay. But the rope arrows are nerfed and that explanation is such bs that when I heard it I knew - nope, you've done f@cked up here chaps. Its like that friend who seemed to be cool underneath it all was just caught drunkenly and lewdly propositioning your married sister in front of her kid.

You certainly arent the authoritative judge of TTLG personalities. You are about as fake as the rubber on the bottom of your shoe. You act like you have some importance here. You dont. Whatever delusions of grandeur you suffer from here is completely self appointed. And you dont have a clue about Looking Glass Studios.

Seriously? I was totally being nice, but only because "quivering mass of frothing incoherence" gave me the chills.

mate, i'll quiver your frothing mass any day of the week, ooh er
