Sounds like they are trying to have their cake and eat it too.
Also, I think this "the one and only master thief, the best in the universe at everything even remotely thiefy" thing has gotten out of hand. In the first two games Garrett was a little bit closer to a regular, relatable guy, and at least he got slapped hard when he was getting too cocky.
To be fair, this is some of the color text from the first mission briefing in the dark project:
The most
promising
acolyte left us,
not out of the
lesser folly
of sentiment,
but the greater
folly of anger.
His heart was
clouded, and
his balance was
lost, but his
abilities were
unmatched.
Even then,
we knew to
watch him
most carefully.

So Garrett was absolutely intended to be a master thief in a class entirely of his own, right from the very beginning.

A Master Thief would know how to become almost invisible; how NOT to stand out in a crowd, how to master stealth so that direct confrontations would be a seriously rare occurrence. Yes, Garrett was a Master Thief.
And then you have NuGarrett.
One question: is NuGarrett equipped with his own personal spotlight that switches on when he's scaling a wall (to highlight all the bling he acquired after headshotting all the guards during his last heist)? Wonder if he's got a gold tooth under that moronic mask.

Right, like I said, a little bit more relatable. There was stuff like Basso picking a lock that he couldn't, getting into an ambush, etc. Little touches here and there.

Who was it that said 'if you try to make something that pleases everyone, you end up with something that pleases no one'?

Yep, it's official! Thief is now confirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360 - in addition to PC, PS4 and Xbox One! And, as importantly, the game will ship for ALL platforms simultaneously.

That means there's little chance of larger maps using the next generation consoles' larger RAM.
Bad, very bad.

Crazy speculation time! Eidos M have been told to stop burning money and ship asap including on additional platforms to protect the existing investment from lesser sales from the early release date restricting it to early adopters for the new consoles. Expect T4 in some unfit state in Q1/2 of 2014 [/crazy speculation]
p.s. perfect tunes.

It is time to get used to this new Thief game. Have to say I am still very excited about it, since it is still a new Thief game after all. Of course I don't like every new feature but if they will give me a great story, awesome level design and a Thiefy atmosphere, I'll be satisfied. And if you want the good ol' Thief, we still have plenty of (and more will come) T2 and TDM fan missions to play with.
Can't remember when was the last time when I purchased a game on release day (not counting WoW here), but I'll definitely buy this upon release.
