Because this beautiful set of missions came out during the Christmas holidays in 2007, I developed a habit of playing it nearly every year between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Although I did this in 2017 the last time, now I am doing it again.
I just cannot tell how satisfying these missions are - such a great quality and strong replay value, with a timeless story and unique atmosphere. Lady Rowena, you are in our hearts forever! This year it's good old red wine and playing Seven Sisters again - thank you for all this wonderful contribution.

Seeing LPs of this FM got me into Thief. I love the feeling this campaign gives me.

Welcome Taffer! I totally agree with you. Lady Rowena was one of the top notch authors! In my opinion she was the best in terms of story telling - which for me is the most important part in a thief mission.
It's really sad she left us so early. I wish I had been more active in this community when she was still in this world and had known her better. She's very inspiring to me.

Hi! I'm discovering FMs and enjoying Seven Sisters, but am now banging my head in Night 1 against a "badass guard" (a Garrett-looking one wearing thief-like dark clothes), that has detected me at some point, and now seems to inescapably forever follow me / instantly know my position, even from unreasonably far away.
See screencast (running T2Fix 1.27e): (

* Is this considered a bug? If yes, is this a bug of this specific FM, or of this specific enemy type?
* Am I condemned to kill the guard, or are there any tricks to de-alert it? (In-game or by editing the save file maybe?)
* Any other tips to avoid such situations?
Thanks :)

Um, sorta.. the only solution I've found to work so far is to either vacate the immediate area, or just wait it out. Either way, you have to wait for a good long time.. Most are about a minute, but some seem to take a good 3 or 4 minutes to "reset" to default. Something in their behaviour puts them into a heightened awareness for an extended period of time, even though they return to normal idle motions and patrols. You can only spot this weirdness by their behaviour upon sighting you again, where they seem to have universal, 360 degree sphere of omnivision that spots you at any distance, and any light level (except complete darkness). I've seen a few variations, but this FM is the only one I've noticed it in recently, and it's highly annoying.
You can also go back to a previous state before they were alerted of course, and go from there. But once you're stuck after they've been alerted, it takes a good amount of time for them to reset to default behaviour again. So far, I've not had one never go back to normal, it just took a very long time.

I finally finished this FM series today. Took me long enough, and while I think it is one of the best FMs I've played, it still has some of those "flaws" that I just don't care for and wouldn't include in any FM I made going forward.
Forced violent encounters are pretty low down on my list of things to have to do in a FM, but at least I didn't find them too unforgiving. Thank goodness the loot requirement and the black diamonds are optional, otherwise, I don't think I would've gone back on this playthrough to get those.
Still, a very fine mission overall, and I now see after about 20 years that Lady Rowena took my advice and ideas on several topics and ran with them. Sometime in about 2003 right around the time she released Rowena's Curse, she asked me what I was working on, and when I told her, she was fascinated. One the highest praises I've ever gotten was something she told me: "You and I think a lot alike on what makes for great characters and story." She wanted to borrow several of my concepts, with permission of course, and I told her it would be a long time, if ever, before I released another FM. I told her she could have whatever she wanted from my brain, I wasn't going to be using any of the ideas for a really long time anyway..
We even talked briefly about something of a "joint release".. not working directly on anything together, but maybe coordinating our plots and ideas and releasing some things that would be considered 'related', like referencing characters in each others' missions. Sadly, that idea kinda died pretty quick as I soon realized Real Life was becoming more and more important and I needed to focus more on family. She was in total agreement, that Life came first, and we just soon lost contact with each other after that. She contacted me by PM and email for a little while longer, but as I got busy doing other stuff I think she quickly realized I was better off pulling away from Dromed and all. It had become something of an all-consuming obsession for me and took its toll on my relation with my kids and wife; I guess all things have their good and bad aspects.
I do regret not keeping in touch with her though. She was a really good person. It saddened me greatly to learn of her passing.

What forced violent encounters exactly?

Having to kill the water nymphs, and the fire guys.
I can let the air elementals encounter slide, however. They were just puffballs.

In both the nymph cave and the fire shadow cave you can just walk along the outer perimeter and they won't react. No need to interact with them at all. When you said forced violence I thought you meant objectives that force you to kill someone by hand combat.
