You're right, I don't. :)

To each their own.

Your own explanation makes sense indeed, and fills some of the holdes in my own post. But you are right, you cannot figure out the intended "truth" behind the game with the information given, if there was any. But what else would you expect from a conspiracy based game? ;)

I guess the point I should make is that I love debate, and will go to extreme ends (such as posts that large) to hold up my own end in a debate. The way I figure it, the story and I suppose DX "mythos" based on what we find in the game can be extrapolated and interpreted into a huge number of different conditions. I happen to think that this is a viable possibility that fills in a lot of holes in the story, while still staying true to what is given in the story. What I was hoping for (perhaps from the likes of Fred Chook) was an alternate interpretation which could be justified and which I could debate against. It challenges your thinking, as you have to have strong backing for all of your points and thus a good recollection of the game, as well having uncovered as much as possible (which requires a near endless amount of gameplay in DX as they have simply so much stuff, more so than a game such as say, Half-Life, and you have to spend a lot of time to get at it all which makes for a very long game).
I would do really well in history class, if I bothered to read the history before hand.

I immediatley chose to go with Tong the very first time I played the game through for the one reason that was given to me that really jumped out. A second chance. While some people might squander having a chance to start over, I believe that humanity on the whole will not always seek to drive itself into the ground. It is a grand lesson that is learned, much like not sticking your hand in the fire, so is not allowing for such corruption to seep in.
Yes, in the long run we could enter another downward spiral....but I believe a hundred years more by rule by man to be superior to another thousand by computers....or ten-thousand by an oligarchy.

The Tong ending, aside from being ludicrously unlikely, was throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Screw that.

chris the cynic and BlackCapedManX are right - destroying A51 would destroy the Net, and with it all communications (the newspapers and books int he game arent handwritten theyre typed, as are datacubes), transport (even Jocks chopper was linked into to a basestation - thats how they bought it in), and infrastructure. Press the "On" button at a powerstation a tiny signal is sent through the Hub at A51, the AI authorizes the transaction, and the power starts (we know this as the AI effectively bought down the Triads near the end of the game).
My dad hasnt actually played DX but hes very interested in the concept. He would have chosen the New Dark Age (Tong's ending) as hes an anarchists and doesnt like capitalism.
THe second time I played it I'd just broken up with my girlfriend. If I'd eben given the chocie in real life I'd have chosen the AI. And had soem fun.... (/me tries not to look evil).
If I had one choice I'd have chosen the Illumanitti as I happen to be a big fan of capitalism. Being a tremendously rich, powerful, influential figure would be right up my street. Who knows - perhaps I could even get a seat on the trilatteral commission!
But after reading this thread I think that perhaps I cant trust the illumanitti. In retrospect I think I'd choose the AI-merge. After all, its the choice thats best for me!
One thing I love about the endings is the differences between them! The NDA is almost right-wing - going back to how things were, 500 years ago (and yes I do think it would take 500 years or even more to rebuild civilisation). The Illumatti, 20thC capitalism, almost how things are *now*. And the AI-merge, looking towards a possible future.
Well, just my two cents!

The presence of "Daedalus" at the beginning of every computer terminal address wouldn't really alert people to it being a central hub monitoring everything.
Or should I be worried that WWW might be tracking my every move...
I'll hide.
BlackCapedManX on 16/3/2004 at 05:35
As well you should. WWW is just the government's cover up for their first layer of the echelon survelence system. It's routed straight into the computers at the pentagon, where they moniter every bit of data going through with quantum super computers. The data is then analyzed and categorized, and a complex program assess the general state of civilized human existance, the results of which allow the government to more thoroughly manipulate our daily lives by know the subtle things which affect us most. Allong with stealing top secret business information so that they can decide what businesses go into power by giving them all the information. [/total bullshit]

I know I'm in the minority, but I like the Illuminati ending. As Everett says in the cutscene after you kill Page, the Illuminati aren't dicatators. They just influence when neccessary to keep anything like MJ12 from happening again. And since Everett and Co. are handling everything, you can go off and shoot some baddies.
