The RIGHT thing to do... - by pad_illa

Well, Everett claims Morpheous doesn't have access to any surveillance technology... it's a bit dodgy when you talk to him, but it makes sense that way. How would he get into the MJ12 systems when he's in such a position of weakness when you meet him? He seems more interested in Morpheous as a pet. Speaking of, that's how I figured Tong's relationship to the Illuminati - a pet topic, something he's put a lot of study into but not actually involved in. So he accesses their systems... I dunno, that's how I saw it.

Fred, you got a few interesting points there. ;)
>> Well, Everett claims Morpheous doesn't have access to any surveillance technology...
Well, I don't think you should believe everything that Everett tells you. The de Beers objective show you that he is lying even to people whom he claims to be friends.
Given that he knows you only for a few minutes, that you are a total stranger whom he wants to use as his pawn - I doubt that he would lie about important thinks to you without even blinking an eye.
>> How would he get into the MJ12 systems when he's in such a position of weakness when you meet him?
Another interesting one, but for other reasons. You know that he is wielding a Dragon's Tooth when you meet him in Paris, right? (He will pull it out and hack off your head if you attack him a bit with your own sword.)
We already discussed this in IRC once, I think. There is no other way that he could have such a sword at that time without contacts with versalife (or wherever those swords were being produced in the first place), as Tong is only just STARTING the production of that thing.
Well, it is probably just a design flaw. But with Everett connected to versalife, and versalife connected with MJ12, I have yet another reason to mistrust Everett. ;)
All three of the endings have their flaws and their benefits. Including the ending that I favour (the Dark Age.)
I guess that's what I wanted to say. ;)

Let's clear this up. Everett has an AI. The AIs don't matter. Blowing up Helios is no big deal. Blowing up the hub is what matters. After the hub goes down Everett has a cute little AI that is attached to nothing. It doesn't matter; it really is just for entertainment after that.
Now as to Tong's computer, Tong does not deny that he has worked with the Illuminati in the past. It looks like part of that is using their system. But he is very clearly going against them when you reach the end of the game.
As for the fun global riots, that is happening before the game ends.

Triad gangs.
Does anyone know what is going on with Tong being " a triad", in real life the Triads are a violent organised criminal gang, but what are they supposed to be in Deus Ex?
This alone made me mistrust Tracer Tong.

Violent organised criminal gangs. Smugglers, extortionists, murderers... if you distrust someone merely for being a criminal, matey, you're going to have a hard time in the RPG world.

chris,
>> But he [Tong] is very clearly going against them [the illuminati] when you reach the end of the game.
He is? I am sorry, but I noticed only that he is going against Everett and Dowd. And as I said, I have my doubts that these two guys are the only remaining members of the order of the illuminati.
They represent only factions of the order, and opposing a faction of something does not mean that the whole thing is being opposed.

I chose Helios first, when I played. That is the route I would choose if I had only one chance in the game, and that is the route I would choose in real life if I were in that situation.
I think humanity would be very lucky to have a benevolent supercomputer in charge of us.

the helios ending has my favourite cut scene, so that one is always tempting, but if it really mattered I'd go with Tracer. Some of you might see loosing the inferstructure to corrupt multi nationals and centralised government to be the end of society. Truth is that civilisation is built on farming and there are more ways to trade and communicate and genereally get on with life other than using expensive proprietry technologies.

The Illuminati has a ruling council of 5, now here's what we know of, at one time there was Lucius, Beth, Stanton, Morgan, and (here's the one that threw me for quite a while) Bob. That leaves no room for Tong as a ruling member, Lucius was on ice, Beth was dead, Bob rebelled. That means that the entire surviving ruling council of the Illumianti was against Tong.
Now could Tong have been a lower member who was trying to pull a coup? Yes.
It's hard to tell much about the Illuminati and their age requirements, so this may or may not be significant. Tong was 28 when they had completely fallen from power, or at least the MJ12 takeover was complete. That seems a bit young, after that it seems like they were more concerned with survival than getting new members.

Hummm. I chose the Helios choice first, and also would. It is the only choice where I get to rule the world, the way I see fit. In the others, the rule is either thrown to the Fates or left to everybody's favorite, Everett.
