Did anybody watch the pilot on FX tonight? I'm a slavering Eddie Izzard fan so I hoped for good things. The story was very interesting - gypsies stumble their way into a seven figure lifestyle. Wonderful fodder for comedy/drama episodes. Minnie Driver looks like shit and was brilliant, better than Eddie even.
There were a couple of great moments: Eddie bullshitting his way through a school reunion speech (they were crashing), an RV chase (yay!), and the kids trying to figure out 'the angle' to simply living a normal life ("So how are we bleeding them dad?"). Great stuff.
Eddie has gone largely unnoticed for years. I didn't think a cable show would be the thing for him, but he sank right into the character. Hopefully this is the ticket.

Largely unnoticed? I thought he was the most popular comic in Britain, or something.

Or something.

He's easily the best comic I have ever seenm, it's pretty damn impressively how he manages to make a highly structured set seem so random

OOOOHHHHHH! It's Eddie Izzard! Man, that was bugging me; I knew I recognized him, but couldn't place him. Must be the 30 pounds he's put on since I last seen one of his bits.

That's because he kept choosing cake over death!

And Terry Pratchett's the most popular satirist in Britain, but he's not exactly burning up the charts elsewhere now is he?
Largely unnoticed in that most people know Jeff Foxworthy, but have no idea about Eddie. ;)

Despite being successful and generally well-known, he's unusual for having done compartively very little television work - which tends to be how the British public at large receive a lot of their comedy or awareness of comedians - through panel shows, sitcoms, sketch shows and similar. And Eddie Izzard really hasn't done very much, if any (that I can recall), of those formats.

I saw him on Have I Got News for You once and I thought he was rather excellent
