What's this about "jumping behind you"? Perhaps lack of playing has addled my brain, but my memory says you can always turn the camera around before leaping.
Though I've yet to try moving along them. In fact, I can't think of any area where this is required. I always just go up and down, and found that plenty fast enough. I mean, you're climbing, not running. But if you really want speed, play SS1. In that game the rungs are a blur.
I've been putting the difficulty gripes so far down to me being a better gamer, but they really are getting on my nerves. It's uncommon you're ever outgunned here, and when you are, running is generally an option. Though I'm quite happy to take anything on with the wrench. You do know the game can be cleared with the wrench alone, right?
Not that that's your only option. Aside from the standard weapons (which allow you to kill just about anything with a couple of shots), there are grenades laying about everywhere. Not to mention the psi powers, such as invisibility, which allows you wander just about anywhere unscathed.
And in the case that you die, nine times out of ten it won't matter, because of the QBMs. You guys do know about them, right? It'd explain a lot if you didn't. :weird:

Also, when I was new to the game, I loved the laser pistol since you can charge it with the recharge station - technically infinite ammo. :)
And then the only cost would be keeping it in good shape, maintenance or repair skill.

I've been trying to think of why I found the game so hard first time around.
1. Low ammo, which takes some getting used to.
2. Uber-degrading weapons of doom.
3. Not having the skill to use the vast majority of weapons lying around.
4. Low health bar at the start.
5. Psi players have a whole host of problems when it comes to just taking out a monster/turret/whatever
6. Those turrets in engineering were just bastards if you couldn't hack security.
7. "Good day sir, would you like a GRIZZLY DEATH - BOOM"
8. Low starting stats overall make everything from hacking to running a pain for newbies.
9. All too easy to make bad choices with upgrades first time through.
10. "The worst you've fought so far is a midwife, so we'll throw some ridiculously fast ninja-cyborgs at you now"
First 10 off my head. Remember, I'm talking about the first few runs through, by someone who's not familiar with the game. I don't think there's a problem with stating that it's a hard game for newbies.
QBRMs are a big help, but they use up nanites, which can often be scarce for a first-time player. And anyway, they don't change the fact that you're repeatedly going to the same part, getting killed, and trekking back there again. It's still hard, and it still gets annoying if it goes on long enough.

QBRMs are free on Easy though, which is a big help for players new to the game. :)

Ah, wasn't sure if they were free or just 5 nanites.
I stand by the rest of my points though ;)

Yeah, you are especially correct about 7). :p
The droids scared me shitless on my first runthroughs, hearing that weird chatter when they are approaching you for one purpose.

The main character moves along them very slowly...
Compared to the rocket-ladders in Deus Ex, sure. But that's just stupidly fast. The speed you climb ladders in SS2 is only slightly slower than walking speed, which seems more than generous to me.

Sometimes it's much faster and you speed up a ladder in no time. I couldn't work out why that is so yet.

Being a packrat, i always end up with too much of everything, ammo, medpacks etc etc, even when playing Hard. Anyone else experiencing this? xD
Can´t understand why everyone is complaining about too little ammo...

People that think they can play SS2 like Quake or HalfLife will make such complaints.
