just found these forums as was looking out to see if anyone has thought about porting SS1 to a GP2X - which is pretty dumb really as its not the sort of thing you want to play for 20 minute bursts on train journies...
but anyway, SS2 took me a few runs ups too, for the reasons already mentioned.
I can't stand respawning in games...i worked as a developer with Acclaim and ended up requesting transferal to another project as refused to impliment "player pics up health bonus, enemy 'appears' behind player as if by magic with guns blazing" cheapness. because of this a respawn is a sure fire way to annoy the crap out of me, especially when as blatant as the earlier stages of ss2.
Equipment decay took a while to get used to, but seemed pretty natural once i did and once i got to the cyber ninjas i was pretty clued up and good to go.
For some reason though, when i finished the game crashed to desktop and it took me years before i found the closing movie online...got there in the end though.
Anyway - just reminising here - im sure this has all been discussed, but am being nostalgic - will have to replay sometime soon.

Well, can you think of a better way to keep you busy while progressing through SS2? Because a lot of times you backtrack back and forth the decks. SS2 would be damn boring without respawning, 50% of the Von Braun-part of the game would be just running around empty corridors.

I find that dead enemies or lack of enemies help me keep track of where I have been in games with a lot of backtracking.
And Painkiller is awesome! I'm still trying to play through on nightmare and collect all of the cards. Unfortunetely I do not own the expansion pack.

Well he did say he worked with Acclaim... that means he wasn't a "real" game developer. Otherwise he'd understand that respawning is a standard and necessary part of RPGs.

I understand, yet don't agree with most of your post. I just can't understand the weapon balance thing. Deus ex is much worse when it comes to weapon balance.
Gun locks onto bots well outside its stated range, yup. Gun has a rocket that homes in on the designated target, yup. Gun has secondary ammo that can deal with large groups of organic enemies, yup. Gun is available at the start of the game, what?!
Add your steady aim on the sniper rifle, the fact that the assault rifle has a grenade round secondary fire, and that the auto shotgun can take sabot shells to deal damage to armoured enemies. Unlike SS2 there is no 'sexing' up when it comes to the descriptions of guns and ammo, so its pretty obvious that for example the flamethrower and plasma guns are useless.
For me any hope of tension was destroyed by the fact that the Dentons are walking invincible tanks (they're supposed to be I guess).

You're genital warts. We never know when you're going to show up.
:weird: But what am I if this time I don't go away?

:wot:
Plasma Rifle, fair enough, it's useless. But the Flamethrower is awesomely useful, there's just no two ways about it.
