Well, I bought MW for Xbox about 4 days ago... Now that I found this board I have been reading as much info as I can as well as checking out other sources of how things work. One of my main concerns lies in joining factions and guilds. I heard that if I join the mages guild and the Telvanni I can't really advance in either. Is this true? I have a mage character and want to complete the quests for the guild but I heard the Telvanni quests have better items and rewards. Now I am afraid I have no idea what I should join or who I should be... Sigh, it is sooo hard to find your place in life.

Welcome dghelps,
It is entirely possible. This however should be in the Hints & Spoilers section!!!
I am the head of Telvanni and Mages guild. To be honest there aren't many (any?) confilcts. There probably should be, as there are certainly mentions of it in the game...
Anyway, I hope you find yourself at home here!

Here's a conflict, in the warriors guild I had to wipe out the thieves guild. Pussy thieves.

Hmm Tuco, there doesn't need to be a conflict. It is quite possible to deal with it all peacefully. I am head of all guilds :thumb:

The two major, if not only, conflicts are between House Telvanni and Mages' Guild and between the Fighters' and Thieves' Guilds. In the former conflict, nothing happens until you complete the main quest. At that point, if you completed the "Disappearance of the Dwarves" quest, Trebonius will ask you to wipe out all the Telvanni councillors. In the latter conflict, Fire-Eye will ask you to steal Sotilde's Code Book and Hard-Heart will ask you to kill all questgivers of the Thieves' Guild. The way around this is to first advance in the ranks of the Thieves' Guild until you get Fire-Eye to back off from the Cammona Tong, then take quests from only the Sadrith Mora, Balmora, and Ald-Ruhn Fighters' Guild questgivers.

It might be a good idea to play through as many Temple quests as you can beforedoing the mainstoryquests 'cause when you reach a certain point in the mainstory, you won't get any more quest from the temple questgivers, they no longer trust you blah blah.... annoying.......

The Temple will trust again after the main story progresses a bit further. I dont know about the Telvanni and Mages Guild thing though, that would be stupid if u couldn't join em both.

Faction Conflicts
Fighter/Thieves guild
Fighters guild current leader is Sjorring Hardheart in vivec, if you take orders from him, you will end up killing off the thieves guild bosses, or you could take orders from the ald-ruhn fighters guild guy and you will kill hardheart and become leader of fighters guild and still have a chance to advance through the thieves guild.
Going through the thieves guild first has you eventually killing off hardheart too, and you can become the leader of fightersguild by going through ald-ruhn fighters guild quests.
Mage guild/House of Telvanni
In the mages guild, Trebonius has 2 quests, first is the dwarves quest, after that is kill off telvanni councilers(you only get this quest after you beat the main quest). Or, you can advance in rank from other mage guild quests and eventually trebonius will challenge you to a duel, killing him makes you leader, Or following all of sadrith mora mage guild quests will make you and trebonius both leaders of the mages guild. Just dont do trebonius' second quest, and there is no conflict
How can both you and Trebonius be leader of the guild?
I always thought you ended up killing him to become leader.
