So now we have to come up with a new word that means exactly the same thing as the old word, but without the mildly insulting connotations, and the new word will gradually build up the same connotations, so that we then have to go through the cycle again?
That's retarded.
Tangential true story: My kindergarden teacher diagnosed me as being mentally retarded. Turned out that she had decided, without having any qualifications or real evidence, that the smartest kids in the class were all retarded because we were ignoring her.

Noooo... That's "chucklefucked".

As pointed out, this is retarded. Brushing shit under the carpet isn't a solution, but often the opposite. The worst part about this particular case, however, is that the complaint is completely flawed - what are they trying to brush under the carpet? The fact that various handicaps are an undesirable and unfortunate thing? Or, here's a good one, that people sometimes insult one other's intellect? Because indeed, if they somehow managed to ban this word, society would simply pull out another one for the same association. They've been campaigning for this shit for quite a while now, by the way.
And fuck, while we're at it, I wonder if I'll get to see they day when we, as a culture, manage to pull our collective head out of our equally collective asshole and stop resorting to idiotic shit like "the r word" or "the n word" etc. This stems from a lot of people's horrible inability to tell the difference between where offense is intended and justified to be taken, and where it isn't. The only thing it helps is to breed future generations of hypersensitive morons. Not to mention it gets confusing, which is "the f word" these days, "fuck" or "fag"?

Yeah, this is lame. Incidentally, the DVD release of Tropic Thunder contained an unintentionally hilarious "public service message" in the special features about how the only R word you should ever use is "respect."
For a good analysis of what happens when a word is swept under the rug, check out Randall Kennedy's Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word.

I thought that this thread was going to be about a Japanese show on lesbians.

Ostriig: I prefer "Viola"--it sounds dirty.
RBJ: It's not?
