The news report I saw didn't say specifically, but implied it was the police. The guy was supposedly heckling Prince Andrew. It was assault either way.
SD - Yes, I know, I was being dramatic because I'm feeling incredulous about what's happening. It certainly comes across like they're arresting people for disloyalty. Thanks for the correction.

96 is a good run for someone born in freaking 1926.
Honestly, every day past 60 could be considered a blessing if you're from that time lmao

But anyway, normally I'd say it's bad form to protest at a funeral but everything about the queen's passing is on public display so it bother's me more that the dude was silenced. Public figures have their critics and that is a good thing, I think, so it's disturbing when dissenting voices are silenced by the state. It's the pot calling the kettle black when the British government tries to silence protest but will send troops to fight someone like Saddam Hussein who silenced descent.

Hopefully it is fixed. It's on Sky News website.
I can only guess at why the fella yanked shouty down, and the guess would be that it was "the Queen's time". I don't know many here who'd disagree with what shouty was shouting - that Andrew has a lot to account for and has slithered away from it - it was more the timing, as you said bad form to protest at a funeral type thing. But, yes, people should be able to protest without a heavy handed response from police and Andrew has it coming.

In the US at least -- because of the Westboro bozos it's actually a thing that commonly happens -- the rule is that people can protest as long as they are out of sight and hearing of the mourners, e.g., outside the cemetery across the street. So the family is protected from it for that private moment in that space, which I think is right and proper.
The issue with this of course is that it's a very public event in a very public place. But I think reasonable people could disagree about which side of the line this is on, if the person was just backed up and not punished or anything like that.

I think we can all agree that heckling a funeral procession is rude and insulting. However, it seemed to be police policy to arrest or threaten arrest to anyone protesting, because the news reported arrests in Oxford, London, and Edinburgh for as little as holding up a sign that said Not My King. I hope this was just a temporary over-reaction, but given the anti-demonstration law that was recently passed and the personality of the new PM, it's not obvious that it is. I have a bad feeling about Liz Truss. She seems blindly ambitious and power hungry. I think you'll be wishing you had bumbling Boris back.

Must've been an American or something. Otherwise, even a disloyal subject is still a subject. You can't even get a passport without getting it issued to you in the name of the king.

Literally the only thing I know about her is that she's apparently a big fan of pork markets:

I'm sure David Cameron approves.

its also a terrible piece of journalism, its not a start its generic bollocks.
Most of the UK pollies seem to be fully born out of a Ben Elton like satire, and he isnt even that great of a writer.
