Must be month of the spider or something. I was reading (
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/006051518X/103-9524982-1028661?v=glance&n=283155) Anansi Boys on our balkony, and just as the protagonist was about to talk to a garden spider about his brother, I felt a tingling on my leg and discovered that a large orb weaver (might have been A. Quadratus) decided to chill in my pants. I politely informed the lady that I do not tend to get that intimate on a first date and set her on a table, where she stared at me for while before scuttling off.
But really, I just wanted to bump the thread in hope for purple spid0r monstar updates.
Oh, and the book is quite entertaining. Nice afternoon read.

No updates :(
The garage is a nightmare... I've been in there five times since. Only a web to see, which is as comforting as it is terrifying.
I shall have a word with Lord Anansi. We have been close ever since the Bebe Spidars. Maybe he has Advice.

Can you post a picture of the web GBM?
I think I heard (and it might just be a complete fishermen's wives tale) that web spiders are less deadly than ground spiders. E.g. Sydney funnel web spider. However Red Backs are pretty nasty and they make webs I think so...

It's spring. Time for all the creepy crawlies to wake up from their winter nap & resume terrorizing hapless humans (and whatever else it is they do aside from catching the occasional hapless insect). On Friday I nabbed three of these at half-hour intervals climbing on the wall by my PC @ work (each progressively larger than the first):

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/Diah_/yellowsac.jpgI discovered that they're called the Yellow Sac Spider (they build a little tent-like sac around themselves) and though rather small, their bites can be especially painfull and can develop into a necrotic lesion. Upon arriving home I promptly got out the vacuum and proceeded to collect any of the little nasties I could find in the vac's cannister (the tents of these particular nasties are usually in the corners up by the ceiling). They now sleep with the dustbunnies in the trash. (Yes, I am merciless; I kill dustbunnies at every opportunity.)
P.S. Yes, GBM; do post a pic of the web you found, please.

But those are the harmless little guys I've been giving a free pass to for years now, due to their light color and spindlliness! And now you say they're toxic? necrotic? AUGH

Something about the US midwest and spiders. The biggest crawly beast I ever saw (outside of the Museum of Nat Hist) was when I lived in Fort Wayne, IN. A friend had caught it the house and it was huddled under an overturned glass on the counter. It was huge. I had a tough time visiting that night while the beast was 8 feet away... bidding its time.
...and plz stop saying things like "necrotic lesions". I'm gonna start feeling things cramling on me soon. :)

All spiders have poisonous bites; there are only a few that don't always inject their venom every time they bite. The Hobo and Yellow Sac are two examples of these. Kinda scary to know there are spiders that are actually selective in that way. And what is their criterion for whether or not they inject their venom? Only the spider knows.
Parker: You should be relieved that I didn't post pics of 'necrotic lesions'; like these:

AAArrrrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!
I refuse to be the cause of this thread sinking into a state of "who can post the nastiest spider bite."
