Xmas. DVDs. Brilliance.
Apart from getting taken to Portmeirion at the age of about 8 and that ReBoot episode, I didn't know that much about the Prisoner until recently.
So, what does the cynical and hate-filled gestalt entity that is CommChat think of this programme? Ahead of its time political commentary or painfully dated gibberish? And is it me, or does (
http://www.sixofone-info.co.uk/) this situation seem too ironic for words?

I AM NOT A NUMBER I AM A FREE MAN
must admit, I know nothing much of this show despite seeing a handful of disconnected episodes in my youth containing such surreal items as floating white bubbles and umbrellas dispensing knockout gas

Yeah, that seems to be about it. People know the catchphrases and the weather balloon and the fashions but nothing more. How long is it before it hits Public Domain?
EDIT: Apparently 1 Aug 2039. Buy the DVDs.

Hey, there's nothing dated about its gibberish.
I watched a few episodes semi-recently, and it's on the same level as Lost in that it's mostly questions with very few answers. If you like that sort of thing, it's not bad.

Just the other day I was thinking that Lost was better when it was still called The Prisoner. :D
Except the smoke tentacle thing is way cooler than Rover.
Also ever since I moved to Davis something has been itching at my brain. The place is nice and friendly and clean and happy and town picnics in the park on Wednesdays and THE MUNICIPAL SYMBOL ON EVERYTHING IS A GODDAMN PENNY FARTHING :tinfoil:

Hm.. Have you had about 50 mayors in the last month? Are you only polite to people when you have a hidden agenda? Do you study peculiar trampoline-based martial arts?

I grew up a fan of Patrick McGoohan as Danger Man back in the 60's and The Prisoner followed on from that. I believe it was way ahead of it's time, had it been made and broadcast in this day and age we would all be ranting about it.
A Lotus 7 has been on my wish list since I saw one for the first time in Danger Man.

I've only seem him in Cronenberg's Scanners. I recall him being pretty decent, his performance being 2nd only to Michael Ironside's. (Ugh, Stephen Lack was horrendous as the lead).

I saw the entire series a year or two ago, I liked it quite a bit. A bit dated in spots but not nearly as much as any other sixties TV shows (Monty Python excluded). Quality stuff. Hard to believe it was American (which I believe it was?). That said, A&E's DVDs are so stupid. It's like, $20 for a DVD with two episodes on it - and the DVDs are bare-bones at that. It's ludicrous.
