For me the fact that his criticisms are so accurate and actually focus on the fundamental storytelling and film making errors as well as usual 'raping of the Star Wars mythos', that I didn't mind that the humour was hit and miss. The 'shit to gold ratio' never shifted towards the former either.
While I agree overall, the AotC review tends to overuse the psychopath angle a bit too much, to the detriment of the review. The "That's what he said" giggling girls bits were just plain stupid imho. That said the other one builds up to the excellent
"She lied to me" ending.
Totally waiting for the RotS installment. :thumb:

People extremely overthink a video itt

Who's "Joel"? I just assumed the guy was channelling Buffalo Bill or something.
And Jokerman, wow, I'd have said you have an almost admirable flair for tortuous humour-vivisection, if it wasn't already dead. The commentary's great; his schtick is just shit.

These videos should be mandatory Clockwork Orange-style viewing for anyone who goes around stubbornly proclaiming that the prequels are just as good as the originals.

Taken in small doses, his Star Trek reviews are quite interesting. On the other hand much of what he goes into was already covered by the most excellent "Star Trek Inconsistencies" video series, which achieved the same effect with no voiceover and in a mere fraction of the video length.
His allegorical Trek '09 review was pretty smarmy, too.

Or, at least, poorly executed. The guy nails each would-be joke into place with a sledgehammer.
But still, miserable attempts at humor aside, his analysis of the films is spot on.
SubJeff on 7/4/2010 at 18:32
Meh. He occasionally makes some funnies, but even where he doesn't the dissection of the film(s) is just so good you've got to watch it anyway.
fett on 7/4/2010 at 19:22
Agree with Subjeff - the movies have disturbed me from the beginning for obvious reasons, but this guy pointed out the deeper problems behind some things I'd never consciously noticed ("enough with the fucking lightsabers!). His cutting of originals to prequels to illustrate his points has been needed for a long time - he could have simply just posted those sections and it would have spoken volumes. Don't let the stupid voice and lame humor rob you of the best analysis of the most disappointing films in history. There's a lot of meat behind the gristle.
APMeehan on 7/4/2010 at 20:08
Agreed. I thought it was just going to be an hour of nerdy nitpicking, but he identifies and articulates the failings of the films brilliantly.
And I'd always assumed the fundamental problem with the new trilogy was an utter absence of any creative constraints, but it is clear that George just doesn't understand his own films that well. I wonder if that's brought on by a change in perspective with age, or if he ever really did.
Like you say, Jokerman, the original films had soul. This can't have been an accident can it?
