That looks about as awesome as I expected.

IMO they took a huge gamble showing it without recorded voices. Maybe that works for some people, but for me it was a bit meh. Everything else looks pretty solid though.

Didn't matter to me. I've loved their brand of writing since the FO1 days, so it spoke for itself.
How good is that Manidbular Rearranger? Every game needs to have one.

I went to PAX East yesterday. It's less than an hour's drive from me, but parking's a real bitch and the crowds are big, so normally I would avoid Saturday. But I picked Saturday this year because I wanted to try to get into the Obsidian presentation. What a mistake! During the presentation I was thinking Bioshock and Fallout got together and had a baby. The rest of the audience seemed to come to the same conclusion. They should call it "Fallout: New Rapture". It seems so derivative of Bioshock, especially in look but also the cartoonish arcade-like combat. And it's been a long time since I've played Fallout 1 or 2, but I don't recall their humor being quite so banal and on the nose. A lot of people walked away disappointed, with most people complaining about dated graphics. I didn't have a problem with the graphics.

I find it weird that they spend most of that video showing off a random murder-rampage of innocent civilians.
That's not why we liked games like Fallout. They seem to be placing way too much emphasis on being able to murder everyone, over actually having good writing, quests, plot, and "normal" gameplay.
Exactly what I asked when I first saw the announcement that they would allow you to murder everyone: why are they spending dev time on that instead of something more valuable?
Why are they making a game primarily geared towards psychopaths?

I believe even the early Fallouts let you kill everyone if you wanted to. It's not something new. You could be a psychopath then if you wanted to.
As to why they did a civvy murder rampage? Simple: they wanted to show everyone the damage models and weapons options. Now you might ask, why not just show that off in a quest? Well, they tried to, but it was over in a flash. Given that the quest they did show off had no VO, it's quite evident that this game isn't even close to done yet if they didn't have another series of combat-related quests in that location that were exhibition-worthy. That's the biggest problem right now; I hope they aren't scrambling to push it out the door this year even if it needs more time in the oven.
I'm not concerned about whether the story's any good, I'm fairly sure they know what they're doing in that department. Sure, the stuff they showed wasn't exactly subtle, but then would you choose to show a live audience something they could belly laugh at, or something that's intelligent and subtle?

It gave me flashbacks to some of the Bioshock demos where they showed off all the "cool" ways you could kill splicers with plasmids.
The devs preemptively took the Epic exclusivity issue off the table before they opened the floor for questions. They answered questions for about a half hour, but nobody asked anything related to the gameplay demo we had just seen.
