Wow, the list of subjects that Fragony has no fucking idea about continues to grow. Don't worry, taxpayer, the viewing rights payed to the IOC will help ease your pain.

You see when people come to your town they bring money, it's the real economy. Are you absolutely sure you are knowledgeable on the subject, events like this are money-makers, it's also a great event for some networking.

Doubt the local economy had much to complain about. Tickets can't cover the costs the city makes, but all these people have to eat and sleep and party somewhere, it's a major financial injection. Also don't forget the viewing rights, all that money flows right back and some more.
Again, a misconception. You actually don't get crowds of millions of people at the Olympics. Here, as other places, they bussed in students (in Greece it was soldiers) to fill the stands so they look full for TV. Alot of the money goes not towards anyone in the local economy, but to the media corporations who are able to sell Olympic advertising and the companies that sponsor it.
Not that Atlanta was harmed in the long run, though. The Olympics were a symbol of the city's rising economic power, and not really a cause like everyone thinks.

Now that is a popular misconception, they do that yes, not all sports are equally popular. Scratch that then.

Fragony is relying on the false premise of trickle down economics.

I would rather call it a reversed broken window theory, progress without actually breaking something, building instead
for those who really actually never heard of it but have an opinion anyway (

These places are always jammed, how many more do they need. What else is there to do in Vancouver, big but boring, good times for the locals bars.

Fragony, it's a good thought in theory, but this has been offset by globalization: whatever money is going to local business instead of the I.O.C. is often not as local as it seems. McDonald's is the official restaurant of the Olympics, and they're everywhere; The Bay is where you go to get your Olympic stuff, and the company was bought out by American business, despite the corporation being a part of our heritage. There are patents making sure references to the Olympics are controlled to those who give enormous royalties. And it's only the downtown core that's packed: in Burnaby, or Vancouver South of the Granville St. bridge, there's no difference. I'm not sure how much money you think is actually staying here; but like I said, we've emptied our coffers to bring it here, and it won't bring in billions to the people.
