The Gauss rifle glitch works, but you do lose a cutscene that explains a couple of things if you don't go for the decoder. :)

I believe that a VSS Vintorez also works. At least I remember trying that trick successfuly inside the Brain Scorcher labs, to open a couple of doors for which I hadn't found the codes.
