Funny that the main reason why I was looking forward to the KexEngine version was a radial menu and good controller support. I was unaware that NewDark mods had solved that for the most part.

it is not perfect but it works great in combination with keyboard
What problems exist?

There is no way to lean left and right with the controller, and obviously you have to use keyboard for things like quicksave/quickload etc.
Edit: you can lean with the controller after all.

NewDark hasn't solved it, it has been solved for ages. Dark engine has always supported analog joystick input and mapping gamepads, and Steam controller mapping supports radial menus.
The only issue is that Steam controller mapping breaks direct input joystick support. You can work around it by disabling steam controller input for the Thief games, then re-enabling it once you launch the game.

If you'd rather play with a controller, (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153292) Thief 1+2 Controller Mod has everything covered — full controller mapping, a radial menu, and even lean left/right/forward.
Good on GOG for updating out of the blue, though the timing is kind of funny.

I don't need mods, I have been playing FMs with a controller for years with a emulator.

Is it just me or is moving underwater with a controller weirdly glitchy? In Bafford's sewer I find that depending on my movement direction I barely make any progress, to the extent that I cant make it through the underwater tunnel to the spider cave for that extra chest of loot, without drowning.

Oh neat, that'll make it easier for people who don't want to configure things themselves. I'd use it myself but I use Steam to map custom inputs to put both lockpicks cycled when pressing one button, with a hold command on the same button to pick the lock. Maybe they can implement something similar as it really speeds up those tense moments where you wouldn't want to be cycling through inventory items to get to the lockpicks.

FYI, the new controller mod that is bundled with GOG is still being futher developed, has a keyboard radials option as well (in case you just want it for that), and supports dualsense controllers' haptic feedback and triggers. Currently that team is going through a second pass on rumble but what's there is already awesome and easy to use imo

Can you even get GoG versions to work with Tfix / T2fix? I tried a few months ago and gave up. I was pretty much told to not use the GoG versions.
