Yo, I am replaying TDS verily as we speak. Can someone please explain what about the cradle and the weldstrom is not awesome? How the AI noticing missing things, open doors, lights being extinguished etc is not really cool? I really, really don't get the whole 'oh my god it's a travesty' thing. It's a good game. First two are better, but it's still a really good game. The AI barks are top notch as well - it's got some of the best benny lines in it, plus the bit where the testy guard gets drunk and starts shouting (WHOOOO! I'M AN OWL!) AND the zombie leg conversation were comedy GOLD. I also think the hammer cathedral level has my favourite rustmonkey custscene:

Playing it myself. The load zones are f*****g annoying and the body awareness sucks, but I forgot how much there was to explore within the limitations of the City maps. The plot is killer, the art is great, the loot is great. It's very immersive to me though I miss rope arrows and water. Not as iconic as the other two but I can honestly say I've played very few games since TDS came out that I enjoyed more. It gets a bad rap and IMO EM is smart to glean from the best parts of it.

So... two months ago some of our dear forum members were right: when we find out more about new Thief, we'll appreciate TDS more. ;)

I for one look forward to the community diversifying a bit outside of the hardcore negativity that runs rampant here now about every bit of news or change or anything else that happens with the franchise. I think it's a bit ignorant to say that every new fan will be terrible. We were all new fans at one point regardless of what game in the series we started on and this place reeks of a grumpy old folks home sometimes.
Hopefully playing the new game will lead at least a small percentage of them to play the old games to see where it all started and they'll get to play the franchise locked in the time capsule that many people seem to want it to stay inside. Even better if they try out the editing tools and create some missions for the older games. Some new blood might help this community more than it'd hurt.

*sigh*
Having typed out and deleted a few expletive-laden rants, let me just say that I cannot possibly imagine any opinion a new fan could hold that would be half as obnoxious as this thread.

Nah blad, The Cradle is legit the best Thief level ever.

I thought the House of Widow Moria was one of the best Thief level ever, at least atmospherically.
Yeah, TDS had it's weak points. Some of them pretty severe. But was it an "abomination", a "travesty", a game "dumbed down for the stupid console audience"? Hardly. Like I said before, it was Thief at it's core, just with some weird excess baggage.
Sometimes, I think the "true fans" are too high strung, and have an over inflated sense of entitlement.

So, we know Russells out, but has anyone heard anything about Daniel Thron being involved? I love his VA work. TDS reminded me of it. The whole festering wound thing with him and Russell as benny is soooo good.

I'm a Cradle fan too, and I'm not a TDS hater, but do you really believe this? Better than anything in T1 or T2? I've always thought The Cradle is a little bit overrated, mainly given such huge praise because by comparison, it's surrounded by some pretty mediocre levels.
@Viv - I think if Dan Thron (or anyone, for that matter, from the original games) was invovled with T4, we would have heard about it by now.
