I just saw that Subnautica Below Zero is one of the ones on sale, which is on my list to get as soon as I saw it on sale... But honestly I don't want to get it on Epic--I'd rather just wait months for a Steam sale--because I'm afraid I'll just forget it about it on Epic and either not get around to playing it or accidentally buy it again on Steam. Well, not even that. The real reason is I haven't actually bought anything off the Epic store yet, just the free games. I don't want to give them my credit card info because the first time I logged in my account belonged to some random Thai person, not to mention the deplorable state of its UI and whole system really.
Edit: That said, 50% at this point in its development is pretty great for that game... It's still a debate.

You might find my post on the previous page of some interest.

Thanks although that's for the first Subnautica which I already have.
(It was my favorite game from last year or two years ago, whenever it game out in early access.)
Here I'm talking about the new one in early access, Below Zero.
And BTW speaking about the early access part... The other question I have is how does Epic handle game updates?
On Steam games update automatically, and it's easy to see because there's a literal update queue you can manage, and it also makes it easy to revert to an older version if one wanted, e.g., to finish off their save game before updating to a new version. I don't really trust the Epic Store to handle game updates well at all.

Hehe, I'm not sure what post you are referring to. I'm taking about the fake Thai account that I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Worth noting: Subnautica will be free on the Epic Games store from Dec 14th to Dec 27th.

If you don't want to give them your credit card info, you can always use PayPal, or a disposable debit card number.
Though, yes, the fake Thai accounts thing is not good, you should have created a new account when you saw the email was already in use, or contacted Epic about it.

Wasn't the Steam store hacked a few years ago and a lot of credit card details got into wrong hands? I haven't trusted Steam with my credit card details ever since, and I can't see why I even should as long as PayPal is an option.

That's happened a few times, and I always sort of feel like it's my fault. :cheeky:
Back to more serious matters: I had a credit card I had only used at the Epic Games Store* -- and only used once -- get compromised. It suddenly had a bunch of Amazon Prime orders on it one day. Thankfully, the credit card company immediately shut it down, refunded me the charges and sent me a new card, but I'm obviously skeptical about spending any money over there. All these stories about accounts being taken over by people in distant countries also makes me wary.
* Technically I used it a long time ago, but I haven't used it for anything else in, gosh, over a decade, and I only keep it open for the bonus to credit rating you get for having a long solid history with a credit source. (It's also nice to keep around as an emergency card I can use if I have some sudden huge expenses.) I deliberately used this card to buy Ashen because I felt a little wary making a purchase there and I wanted to use a card number I could isolate from any of my other spending. Ashen has been my only purchase there.
I'm also suspiciously popular there. With this account I dabbled in the UT alpha a couple years ago, then I dabbled in Fortnite last summer to see what all the fuss was about, then I bought and played Ashen around xmas. I've also collected some of the freebies on offer at the store. I made no "friends" and really didn't play much of Fortnite. Yet when I logged in last month for the first time in a couple of months, I had over 500 friend invites. :erm: (I've since set my account to auto-decline all friend requests.)
Despite all that, I'm not as anti-Epic as it seems many people have become lately. I don't think they're at all nefarious and I think it'd be great for someone to pressure Steam to get better and give developers a more fair cut.
But I really don't think as a company and a service Epic is anywhere near ready for prime time, ready for the responsibility and complexity of running a trustworthy Steam competitor. It appears pretty evident they're growing too aggressively.
