Can someone in the know elaborate on what dexterity does for you? Certain things I know (lockpicking, repair), but does it affect attack / defense? Especially, what about casting? Does it affect missile weapon attack, but doesn't matter to magical / wand missle attacks? How about falling damage? Does it matter more based on the character you choose? For instance, I'm looking to do UU2 as a Wizard. Was thinking going with missle weapon to avoid close combat, buts thats a joke (can't back up fast enough; enemy gets in range too quick). If it only affects missle, I may lower DEX down and go STR, at least so I can carry a bit more.

It's a pain if you don't have enough strenght. High strenght is hard to get with a wizard, but if you get it then you won't have much problems (mana/lore/casting good for a wizard).
Dunno about dex.

I think dexterity helps your acrobatic skill, i.e. jumping height and falling damage taken. Don't know about the others mentioned, though.
For missile weapons, use high places to avoid close combat. There are plenty of them in UW2. Also, use the -shift- key when backing up.
How do you raise your strength, anyways? It's not as easy as SS2 or is it?

You can't raise your strenght in the game. But in the beginning, when you customize your character, at one point you get pseudo-random skills(strenght, intelligence, dex, there was another one ?) - so if you don't like them you press ESC and so on until everything is fine.

It appears DEX is useless for a MAGE. And yet, its default minimum number for MAGE is 16, second only to TINKER (which is 20). Tinker I can understand (fixing things) but how on earth does it affect a mage? Obviously its important due to the min. allowable number the roll for you (will never be less than 16).
I'm very curious about this.
