Another vote for the "I have never been to the PlanetDeusEx forums but didn't feel alienated by the world" camp here.
Personally, I didn't find it any more incomprehensible than any other RPG where I'm not playing some guy who conveniently has amnesia. It's just a pre-existing world (albeit one where personalities, characters, and events have, to some extent, been inspired by or directly lifted from a forum), and I'm putting the pieces together in the same way as pretty much any other game.

Thanks to the suggestions on the help forums, I reinstalled the C++ package, and the mod is now running fine. :thumb:
It is immediately visible that a whole lot of work went into this one. I did not find the setting intimidating; in fact, it becomes goddamn entertaining if you take it for something like Snow Crash's Metaverse - over the top, right down to the trenchcoat and sunglasses abuse during character generation. Just add a few katanas and it is Snow Crash. :cheeky:

Well, that was unexpected. :laff: It is now officially Snow Crash.

My smiliey-fu is lacking, so I'm not totally sure but I think you utterly missed the point.
To say that there are complete idiots who like Deus Ex is not an insult to any Deus Ex fans other than those who are complete idiots.
There are human beings who are morons. There. I said it. Does that mean I insulted human beings in general? No. Of course not.
If you read the text of his post you will see that it indicates it is surprising or unexpected that an "utter retard" would be a Deus Ex fan. This means that Deus Ex fans are a group placed above the general population, because while anyone would expect to find the drek of society in the general population, he do not expect to find them amongst Deus Ex fans.
How is that an insult? He came out and said that he has placed Deus Ex fans in a class above and beyond ordinary people, and you called it an insult. Why? Would you have preferred he indicated that he expected Deus Ex fans to be "utter retards"?
[Added:] Hi. I be slow. He already responded.
[Added:] DDL, you while you have posted more than Chuck, Chuck has been here longer. Therefore, apparently, in Chuck's mind you don't count. At least that is the implication I get.
Okay. I'm stoned or something, because now I'm lost. I reacted to DDL because he called me a retard. 'Fuck him' , I thought. Now I'm thinking I missed something. The cynical guy stepped up to the plate and really planed me. 'Fuck him', I'm thinking. Or did that too go over my head?
And DDL does matter. He matters a whole lot. You all do. All my internet friends do. You're like a big basket full of kittens.

Revert to an older save.

He didn't call you a retard, his post was just... inelegently phrased

I think one thing TNM has achieved spectacularly so far is to highlight the number of utter retards out there who still somehow like DX.
Means "there are some people who are retards despite holding the non-retarded opinion that Deus Ex is good"
Well, he is calling you a retard if you were to (DDL's words) "shit all over it because they can't be arsed to figure out elemental aspects" but he definitely wasn't just mass insulting DX fans, despite it being understandable to read it as such!

Clearly I need to work on minimising my "angry" when posting.
Ideally by now I'd be utterly immune to the vagaries and whims of the internet, but it seems I still overreact to what I perceive as unjustified idiocy.
Apologies for inelegant phrasing, and thanks for trying to clear it up, folks.
More succinctly: what they said.
I begin to suspect a lot of this is because people have gotten just plain lazy in the days since DX was released: a lot of games nowadays do their best to spoonfeed you just about everything they can, which means presumably that a lot of people simply can't handle non-linear thinking anymore. Or something.

Version 1.0.1 is out! Grab the patch here:
(
http://offtopicproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1971)
It has about 140 fixes, so things are now MUCH more stable and we've fixed most every bug reported in the first week or so. The patch may not be compatible with saved games, so we recommend installing it before starting a fresh play through :)

The game's run nice and smooth for me so far, apart from a little hitch with the end sequence of ABI.
Have been really getting into TNM the last few days, it's brilliant fun, lots of praise for it.
