Was anyone else slightly surprised at Jack's quickness to accept the role of Jacob 2.0, give his behaviour in the rest of this series? Personally, I think this means Jack is going to die very soon.

Nah, if you ask me, it always had to be Jack. He's the one who actively fought to return to the island, and the only one who didn't want to leave when they got back. He's the one who said he felt he had a purpose on the island. He's one of the few who actively wanted to return to the island (rather than going against their will or with an ulterior motive.) However, this still doesn't rule out the possibility of a twist reversal, sudden death of Jack or something similar.

I think so too. Here's why:
In last Tuesday's episode,
Alt-Timeline Jack was shaving in his mirror and found a cut across his neck, much the same way he found his appendix scar and didn't remember it. So I'm guessing MiB will slit his throat and someone else will have to take Jack's place.
Kuuso on 21/5/2010 at 21:35
Ben will. MIB can't hurt Jack still I presume.
Renault on 21/5/2010 at 21:50
Of course Jack will die. Because Locke is coming back to be the true protector of the island.

I like Ben's kill-em-all-attitude. He's my favorite for the winner of this year's survivor

And why the hell did they have to kill off Frank? I liked Frank. They didn't do nearly enough with Frank. And now Frank's dead. :(
For once I agree with you. They could've done so much more with Frank. Actually I wish Frank had appeared in the show from the start, and in the whole ordeal seems like he didn't because he overslept... xD Talk about irony.
Haven't wached the show completely, just 2 more episodes besides the finale left for me.
I don't really like that they kill off the characters from episode 1 like flies, but I guess we all saw it coming.
Lost love dramas are the only ones (especially Jin & Sun's) I ever cared for somewhat in any TV show I can remember. The way Jin & Sun went was kind of a mockery, but meh, so was Charlie's and most other main characters endings.
I love Jack again, probably, cause he is now the ultimate man of faith of the show and that's pretty awesome. Cause, y'know, he was a bit of a douche in the middle-stage of the show.
Desmond - my favorite character of the whole show, ofcourse. The key to everything, they guy, that calls everyone "brotha", the individual, that got stuck on the island seperately from all other important characters.
I know Faraday died long ago, but he was awesome too. He was kind of creepy, clever, therefore awesome.
I guess the show ends tonight, though unfortunately for me I live in Europe, which means the show ends tomorrow for me. :/
Edit: Sweet, they're taking the show so far in the past no other time has been that far. I wouldn't be surprised if it was... I duno, before normal humans got born.
Hmm, I just love how the show goes philosophical. It's just... :) What makes it superior to other shows.
It ties it up originally with the events in the shwo and gives the overall atmoshpere epic.
Edit: Best episode I've ever seen I guess.
Oh, to T-Smith, who whined about that far-flashback episode like 11 days ago - just stop. Guess I'm too late to say that now huh.

About Ben Wonder if Ben going all kill-em-mode is due to the fact MIB is near him, since didn't he get dipped into the pool (Richard saying he will never be the same again and uber evil) as a child? Like, he's like Sayid. Then again, Jacob wasn't dead, when he got dipped so dunno

If this series just ended with Jack sitting alone on the beach, cooking breakfast, looking off in the distance and imagining what still-living friends are up to out there, and Silas from Deadwood sits down next to him and says he's gonna find a way to kill him, well, I'd be ok with that.
I'm sure it
won't be that, but I'd be ok with something that simple and quiet, and mildly unsettling.
That's the right attitude, my friend. It's always good to see a fan, who knows something else besides whining about disappointing stuff, no matter how good it is, as shown well in the "Across The Sea" episode. People just nitpicked it apart, for no decent reason.
Then again, you might've been sarcastic, in which case - pff.
I would like if the series ended with something not too cheap, like everyone dying or living happily ever after, but something balanced and something that doesn't ever really end. If the island blows up and the alternate universe guys get all memories from the island selves, lives happily ever after, it would be okay. Though imho if the island keeps on going and being the creepiest thing in the universe, that would be even more interesting. Sure, things end, but it's not like we'd be there to see it.
The light source of the island has something symbolic to it, it's nice.
The only thing I can think of, that doesn't make much sense, is why going into the light itself makes you a black smoke thingy. I guess human body gets destructed by the energy and conscience remains, embodied into energetic, powerful, pretty shapeless form.
But seriously, I love how all the stuff has been put together - the Dharma initiative and the hatch researching that energy, The occasinoal whispering around the woods being trapped spirits (good to see ya, ol' traitor Michael (hug)), Jack's father on-island being the unnamed Man In Black, then Adam and Eve (a mystery I had long since forgotten) being explained nicely and.... many smaller deals, which I hardly remember, like Sawyer's bottoms-up with the skeleton guy.
Ofcourse answered questions ruin the magic, so I guess people will whine a lot at the end, but that's how it is with stories, that end.
I will watch the finale by myself, with no Dharma baloons or whatever, not THAT much of a fan.... plus I know nobody else besides my bro 200+ kms away who watches Lost.

Have you even watched the past couple of seasons?
edit 2: oh, he had a neck scar? Dindn't notice. Oh well, main characters of the entire show die off like flies anyway, so surprise there. I was thinking of Hugo being the next island dude, tho Locke and Ben are even more possible. I'll want an explanation for how Locke gets back conscious mind though, after he, y'know, lost it.
But eh, I'm willing to bet none of them get to fully take it. It's a mainstream enough show to make the writers make the option, that pleases the most, which, my guess is, probably means ending the whole thing.
I'd really like an original truth version in the final conclusion of the series. History repeats itself is old, so are many others, so I'm not putting my hopes anywhere, as it is probably an undoable task.
Ahh, enough rambling, let's just be grateful for whatever the finale shows.
As for my frustration, though, Richard isn't the mysterious man anymore, as he made himself to be all this time. But everyone awesome starts out with humbler roots, I guess

My problem with Frank Lapidus and even Miles is that they were set up to be pretty great characters in Season 5, but their entire roles in Season 6 have been "Wandering around and making one-liners". Has Miles said
anything of any kind of value since the scene where Sawyer made him check out Juliet's last thoughts in the first episode? If they killed Frank off, it's just about time since they obviously couldn't be bothered to commit to making him a great character. I'm still waiting for Miles to have some real significance.
As far as Ben going all "Kill them all", he had an inner responsibility to his daughter. He's not going to kill Jack, and I doubt he'll kill anyone else either. I feel like anyone who thinks differently has missed his entire arc. His eulogy at John Locke's Funeral and admittance of him being a better man, his heart-wrenching apology to Ilana for killing Jacob. Ben isn't the same person he was in Season 3. Not by a long shot.
Given that he gave Miles a walkie-talkie, I feel like he's manipulating the Smoke Monster. Whether the Smoke Monster has access to all the dead people's memories or just John Locke's, there's enough in there to paint Ben as a pretty terrible person, which isn't the case. I think they're going to pull a kind of Vader / Palpatine thing, and Ben will actually be the one to betray and kill the Smoke Monster.

The memories "leaking through" into the Sideways world and just how epic (God I hate that word) and grand the show has been all along makes me think we'll see something different than an ending with John Locke and Jack sitting on the beach where John Locke says "Do you know how badly I want to kill you?" I think it's worth remembering that in the sideways world, the Island is underwater, though I suppose it could be a red herring since it was the first thing we saw this season.
