So, there's a thread for the other five seasons, I figured what the hell.
It's hard to predict or formulate a guess as to what will happen this year, considering a nuclear weapon was detonated that could potentially wipe out the first five seasons of events.
So I'll just say Jack will die this year, some sort of sacrifice to save others, and the real Locke will return. And I'm sure we'll see the return of a boatload of characters who previously bought the farm on the island.

There will be an alternate timeline but somehow everyone will have some memory of what happened and the mystery will be solved but nerdrage will flare when not every iddy biddy thing is tied up.

We'll discuss theories later. For now, I just want to state on record that I want a Dharma Initiative baseball cap to wear while I watch Lost.

I watched an eight minute recap of Seasons 1 through 5 of Lost yesterday to see how much I missed since Season 3 started.
How does it feel that a show this deep with mystery can be effectively compressed from 5 years to that? :p

Yeah, and I could explain away Great Expectations as "poor kid gets rich, life still sucks", but that doesn't necessarily capture the flavor of the story. The thing that makes it so memorable. Your recap BS is cliff notes at best.
...not that I'm comparing one of the great classics to Lost or anything...but it's a good analogy...shut up

So we get an awesome episode that answers quite a few questions, and sets us up for what's bound to be an awesome end game scenario...yet, no one is talking about it? The hell, people?
And despite all evidence to the contrary, I still think Locke is going to do something grand and become the central character the entire plot ultimately hangs upon before the big finale. At the very least, he'll be doling out a goodly bit of come-uppance at some point. It's kind of a chekov's gun situation. All of his sad life, he's been walked upon, conned, beaten down, and run over by just about everyone in his life. Even his alternating between heroic badass antics and pathetic bouts of whining during the course of the series have come about due to manipulation behind the scenes by the up til recently unseen antagonist. The character is just too popular, too close to the core of the story and has suffered too much, to just end up the way he has.
It's also quite nice knowing what the smoke monster is.

So the show can now be pretty much reduced to the idea that Jacob and the dude from Deadwood are just Mortimer and Randolph Duke?
Do we get to see Al Franken with a guy in a gorilla suit, or is that too much to ask.

Fantastic opening to the season, with some great reveals. The Man in Black being the Cerberus was expected, but it was nice to finally have it stated out loud. Six seasons in and the biggest damned mystery in the show is finally getting some spotlight. Also his comment to Richard about being in chains seems to support the theory that he arrived on the island in the Black Rock.
It was also nice to finally see the Temple. It's hard to imagine that it was first mentioned in season 3 and has played a pivotal role in the story - but we're just NOW seeing it.
Then there's all the alternate timeline stuff going on, which is confusing enough as it is. Desmond's disappearance from the plane probably isn't a coincidence. He's been built up since season 3 to be some sort of great variable/exception to the rules. It was also great seeing old cast.
My only real complaint lies with the show's CG. I realize that they must spend a ton already (especially with all the locations/large sets and the enormous cast) but come on. The underwater island reveal was almost ruined by the fact that it looked like something out of a Playstation 1 game cinematic. And not a good one.

I thought the premiere was pretty underwhelming. There weren't many wow moments, and yeah, I did expect them after a flippin' H-bomb went off in the finale last year. We've heard about the temple for years, but what's up with the guys that live there? You get some seriously cliched japanese dude (even watering bonsais!) and some hippie who looks like John Lennon. Where have these guys been for the last five seasons, hibernating? And the cheesy fireworks alarm system, just awful.
The parallel timelines might be interesting - Stephen King did this exact thing in The Dark Tower, so we'll see how badly they rip him off. I'm still holding out hope that John Locke will return to save the island, but right now it's looking grim.
