I think its a sentient polymorphic ship and that none of the original crew survive. It may have been on earth since before mankind.
The Dharma initiative built the orchid. I think that the Others that existed before built the wheel of teleportation. And the mechanism that allows it is a different thing altogether.

I agree that the Island could be a
sentient polymorphic ship, but I also believe some of the
ship's crew would had to have survived in order to teach the Others (the originals) how to build the teleportation wheel as well as how to use it. Unless it was Dharma who actually harnessed that power and built the wheel. But how could they have known unless they had contact with .... someone from the spaceship's crew?. I'm also wondering just where and how
Jacob ties into all this, as well as Jack's dad. And wtf; is Claire now dead, or what??!!!
I just went back & watched the last bit of the season finale and there are a few things that caught my attention.
During Kate's flashforward, when she's
sound asleep & is awoken by a loud creak (of someone walking upstairs), her phone rings and after a series of clicks there's what the subtitles (yeah, so I was anal enough to turn on the captions to see if whatever the voice said was intelligible) call 'a ghostly voice whispering'. When I listened more closely to that voice I could swear that it's Jin's voice, speaking Korean. Could be all my imagination (or wishful thinking), but it sure
sounded like Jin.
When Jack is in the
funeral parlor looking at Bentham/Locke's body in the coffin and Ben appears, Ben tells Jack that 'all of you have to go back'. Not just the O6, because Ben nods his head in the direction of Locke's body & says, 'Even him'. I interpret that as meaning that all of those who left the Island, before and during the great escape of the O6, have to return in order to stop the 'bad things' that have been happening since their departure. I also caught in Jack's somewhat rambling and disjointed protest to Ben
(about being able to contact/find the other Survivors who made it off the Island after Ben tells him they all have to return) that, 'Sun blames me .....', so yes in answer to a previous question; it would appear that Sun blames Jack (& maybe Kate as well) for not going back & rescuing Jin (silly woman, since we all know he was
most likely blown clear of the ship when it exploded and therefore still lives).
I'm also wondering how Penny
is going to hide Desmond. Afterall, I'm sure between Jack & Des she now knows what her daddy has been up to and would definitely want to heed Jack's parting warning to Des, 'Don't let him find you!'.

Dia, your spoilertagging is really hurting my head. I think it's safe to say that most people understand that reading this thread risks seeing a spoiler or two. No offense woman, you know I love you, but you might as well just block off the entire message the way you've tagged it all up. ;)
Now, I believe the writer's have joked about aliens on the show, so I really don't think we'll be seeing any of them or their spaceships. For God's sake, I hope I'm right. The only thing worse than aliens on Lost would be zombies.
Also, someone on The Fuselage reversed the phone call that Kate got, and it sounds like either Locke or Christian, but here's the message:
"The Island needs you, you have to go back before it's too late."
I am really curious to know what are the "really bad things" that happened on the island after it moved (per Ben, and btw, how does he even know since he can't go back?). I mean, the bad guys are all dead, aren't they?

Thanks Bretheren (nothin' but love for ya). I was really getting frustrated by feeling as though I had to use all those damned spoilers as well. So from here on in, no more spoilers.
At this point I'm just as willing to consider that the Island is a spaceship as I am that Jack's dad, Libby, & all the other dead people seen previously on the Island by the living are zombies! ;) Pretty much just grasping at straws here, trying to make sense of the whole thing.
And yeah, I wondered what those 'bad things' could be as well. It must be pretty bad for Locke to have left the Island in the first place in order to convince everyone to return. Sounds seriously ominous.
And do you think Claire's dead? I can't imagine that she would just up and follow Jack's (& her newly discovered) dad and leave her baby in a tree, ffs! From the beginning we get hints & clues that Claire's baby is 'special' to the Island; now she's telling Kate not to bring him back there? Lots of questions and I really hate having to wait for the answers.
P.S. Maybe it would help if you put something like, 'Here there be Spoilers' or something like that in the thread title. Just a thought.

I think Claire has to be dead. The dead people are the only ones who show up in the Losties dreams and visions (see Christian, Boone, Ana Lucia, Charlie, etc.)
Thirith on 4/6/2008 at 17:56
Claire seems dead to me, since her behaviour in the shack was all David Lynch, just like island-Christian doesn't behave like 'real' Christian. Something's definitely happened to her.

You think?
Come on guys, those 2 are hanging out with Jacob now. They have seen behind the curtain. Of course they are going to act different.
Locke is still one of the 6 Dia. Desmond is not.

Thing is, I think in some weird, screwed up way they *are* Jacob. He manifests in them. Don't ask me what exactly that would mean, though.
