And how can Jin be alive if Micheal is not?
Because Jin was on the deck of the ship and could potentially have been thrown clear by the blast, and Michael was all of 12 inches away from the
fifty pounds of C4. Rose and Bernard were still on the beach when the island moved, so they're still there. I assume that Faraday and the second group were close enough to the island to get moved with it as well, otherwise they probably would have tried to help everybody in the helicopter when it went down.

I still think it's suspicious that we see Juliet sitting on the beach watching the smoke, yet Bernard and Rose (and who else that was left behind?) are nowhere to be seen? Seems like they would have been waiting together anxiously for Faraday to return.

The helicopter could have been out of range of where Faraday was. Actually, I think Faraday did not move with the island, as Jin will need someone to rescue him (poor Jin, he has a tough time avoiding exploding boats).
Also, I think the O6 will need Daniel and his scientific background to get back to the island, so eventually he will hook up with them in L.A. Of the scientists, he seems to understand the most about the island and it's properties.
D'Arcy on 3/6/2008 at 23:44
Since some time went by between the freighter exploding and the island moving, I think that Faraday had enough time to return to the island. If the explosion could be seen from the island, then surely Faraday must have seen it too.
I didn't find it strange to see Juliet alone. The closest person to her is Jack, and he wasn't around. She didn't seem to be at the beach, as we don't see any of the huts and other stuff in the background, just vegetation. She probably just wanted to be alone and get pissed, so she must have wandered off.

He might well be bukary. Or one of the first (THE first?) people to discover the Island and what it can do.
Right you are on the Jin/Micheal question Fafhrd. I hope he is still alive.
Yup fett, those are the 6.

BTW, if the island (
spaceship?) can "move" and "materialize" suddenly in some other place (or the same place, but later or earlier in time)... that explains polar bears and Black Rock in the middle of the jungle.
I read the following theory, which makes a lot of sense:
Remember that polar bear skeleton that Charlotte was examining in the desert? Remember Ben materialising in the middle of the desert, most likely right after turning the frozen donkey wheel?
The Dharma Initiatve was training polar bears to do something, as is shown by the cages they put Sawyer and Kate in. The donkey wheel room is extremely cold and it takes strength to turn the wheel. It makes sense that at some point in the past (although that is debatable, since time is elastic in Lost), they moved the island, and they used a trained bear to do this. Poof!, the island moves, the bear materialises in the middle of the desert and dies.
quinch on 4/6/2008 at 09:04
But there would need to be easier access to the wheel since a Polar Bear would have to get through the exploded hole and then climb down the makeshift ladder. You could check the earlier episode where Ben appeared in the desert and see if he's still wearing Halliwax's jacket which would confirm the theory :)
Thirith on 4/6/2008 at 09:13
I can't remember the exact make of the jacket, but it was obviously a jacket made for very low temperatures. In any case, though, I'd imagine that there's easier access to the chamber - it'd be silly if it was built to work like that in regular circumstances.
quinch on 4/6/2008 at 09:25
I meant Ben used the jacket of the scientist Dr. Marvin Candle aka Dr. Edgar Halliwax* who appears in those videos and who's name badge was clearly visible.
As for another entrance to the chamber, I agree. It's typical Ben to make deliberate hard work of something.

Dia - Desmond isn't one of the Oceanic Six, do I don't think he'd have to
go back .
I got the impression that the Island didn't want
anyone to leave, period, not just the O6. That would mean that everyone who
successfully left would have to return, Walt & Desmond included. Bentham/Locke obviously used Ben's method(s) of being able to come & go from the Island in order to convince the O6 that they needed to return asap. Also, imho, it looks like Ben is trying to
find a way back to the Island. The fact that he's a self-serving bastard would make it almost mandatory that he try, regardless of the consequences to others.

I also found it curious that we never really see what becomes of Rose and Bernard (IIRC Rose was adamant that she wanted to leave the island, especially if Locke was staying), or Daniel and the folks on the raft. They were headed for the freighter, but would have turned back for the island
when it blew. Are we to understand that they just got
lost and died at sea? I know Rose and Bernard weren't with the second group of people Daniel shuttled to the freighter, and I didn't see them on the freighter, nor were they hanging out with
Juliet on the island. Where did they go?
I think it was just a given that Rose & Bernard were among the Survivors still on the beach
waiting their turn to go to the freighter. As far as Daniel & the others on the raft, it looked like they weren't that far from the Island and
they were encompassed by the 'bright light' when the Island started to move. So I believe they went where ever the Island did, having been caught in the circumference of the light thingy. I agree that Juliet & Sawyer were obviously on a different part of the beach, Juliet wanting to be alone & all.
I did find it curious that looking down on the freighter from the helicopter's pov, you don't see
anyone on the deck. It's only towards the end just before
the bomb explodes that you see a bunch of people running around in lifejackets, and they all look like deckhands. What happened to the couple of boatloads of Survivors that were already ferried to the freighter? Were they below-decks and ended up perishing in the blast?

Dia:
The Island is a spaceship, not the Black Rock. Now that I think about it, that would make sense. And along that line, the original Others could be the
original crew of the ship? That would explain why (ohGod what's his name ...Jeremy?... the dark-haired guy with too much eye-liner & mascara - Ben's one-time right-hand man who is among the group that greets Locke when he returns to the forest) has obviously been around for a lot longer than the normal human lifespan would allow.
