Polygon's (
http://www.polygon.com/quality-control) Quality Control - Interviews with game reviewers, that digs into the process of reviewing a game. I really like the host as well, he's laidback and effortlessly funny, but it wasn't until just now that I realized he's the same guy from the Sawbones podcast, Justin McElroy!
(
http://www.dancarlin.com/hardcore-history-series/) Hardcore History - I do not consider myself a history buff at all, yet I've ended up listening to every one of these 3-4 hour long episodes, a few of them twice even. Dan Carlin tells some great stories in this show, with a slant towards the darker side of our collective history. It's called "Harcore History" for a reason, and it's because the types of stories that come up here makes stuff from Game of Thrones look tame. This is about the dark, fucked up shit that can happen when nations, religions, and ideologies collide. Good starting point for new listeners might be one of the one-off episodes The Prophets of Doom (about the Anabaptists in Munster) or The American Peril(about when The New World showed itself as a force to be reckoned with for the first time, in the American-Spanish war).

Serial is great. I was a little worried, and probably they were too, about how well it'd do. The podcast world seemed to be going more newsy and shorter unless its about games. Long form, in depth stuff wasn't so optimistic.
But it's the number one podcast on the planet so I guess it's going well.

It's the number one podcast on (
http://www.avclub.com/article/2014-v-club-readers-poll-results-213025) AV Club's Readers' year-end Best Podcasts of the Year list as well!
1. Serial
2. The Flop House
3. 99% Invisible
4. U Talkin’ U2 To Me?
5. We Hate Movies
6. No Such Thing As A Fish
7. Judge John Hodgman
8. Comedy Bang! Bang!
9. Andy Daly Podcast Project
10. Filmspotting
I have listened a lot to 1, 2, 4, 8, and 9 on this list this year, which makes me one of the cool kids! Aaaaahhhhhh, so this is what it feels like to be in the zeitgeist.

Feel like I've come full circle with podcasts somehow. I'm back to listening to what got me into them in the first place, Professor Blastoff and WTF with Marc Maron. Maron's interview with (
http://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episodes/episode_535_-_nick_frost) Nick Frost was great. I've always just thought of him as that second guy in all the Simon Pegg movies, but that guy's
lived, man. He's got some stories to tell. Highly recommended!

(
https://soundcloud.com/the-canon-podcast) The Canon - filmcritics Devin Faraci and Amy Nicholson discuss/argue about whether movies like Goodfellas, Inception, Jerry Maguire are great enough to be included in The Canon Of The All Time Greatest Movies. Sometimes they have face-offs: should Star Wars or Empire be included in the canon? Alien or Aliens? Both of the hosts are
great, even when I 100% disagree with their view they argue so passionately and with so much insight it's hard not to see their points. Wonderful show for filmbuffs. Check it out!

Hanging around the Serial reddit has been good for one thing at least. Loads of new podcasts.
(
http://www.lifeofthelaw.org/) Life of The Law. A bit like This American Life with a legal slant.
(
http://backstoryradio.org/) Backstory. Transect slices of US history on various topics. Myths, facts and legacies Really good stuff this one.
(
http://www.youmustrememberthispodcast.com/)
You Must Remember This. The golden age of Hollywood in fact and fiction. I started on this one mainly because of the current series on Charles Manson. Very polished stuff.
(
http://thinkingsidewayspodcast.com/)
Thinking Sideways. Often epic retellings of every unsolved mystery and weird story you can think of, with summaries of the various theories. Pretty cool, although I've heard people say they don't like the hosts. But I think they're a cool bunch.
(
http://www.onthemedia.org/)
On The Media a couple of venerable hacks go in depth on what's been going on in the press lately.
(
http://risky.biz/)
Risky Business; pretty hard core current affairs podcast for the world of computer and information security matters.

Turns out I
did not remember the You Must Remember This podcast. Until last week, that is, when I went back and listened to the 10 remaining episodes of the Charles Manson story. It drags a bit in the later episodes which focus more on Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski tho. Facinating individuals though they are, as with any true crime story the killers are always more interesting than the victims, and it's especially hard to upstage rock star-wannabe/hippie-guru/saviour of the white race/second coming of Christ/serial killer Charles Manson and his followers at the sex ranch.
Amazing story, and very well-told by Karina Longworth. The intro gives me shivers every time.
A couple videogame podcasts I've been listening to lately:
(
http://alifewellwasted.com/podcast/) A Life Well Wasted - Interviews with the people who make and play games. Only 7 episodes were made, over 4 years, but they are very polished and high-quality.
(
https://www.idlethumbs.net/idlethumbs/episodes) Idle Thumbs - I bounced off this one a few years back but recently decided to give it a second chance and ended up loving it. Great show, great hosts. Also worth pointing out is the (
http://karthikb351.github.io/thumbsdb/) Idle Thumbs Database where, through some sort of arkane Internet Magic, you can listen to only the parts of all the episodes that deal with a certain game or topic.

Look at that, AV Club picked their (
http://www.avclub.com/article/podmass-2015-superlatives-including-awards-obama-a-229359) favourite podcast episodes of the year, and YMRT's Charles Manson ep. 9 took home the price in the Most Likely To Infect Your Nightmares category! :thumb:
Also, through the comments section I learn that the U Talkin U2 To Me podcast managed to get U2 to sit down for an interview! Hopefully the hosts didn't shy away from asking the tough questions, like "Hey Bono what's your fuckstyle?" and "Can I have a free t-shirt?". Need to listen to this tonight.
