Your popculture references do not work on me as I am immune to television

Look at this shit. I'm resurrecting the thread and starting page 2 at the same time. TRULY THE STARS ARE ALIGNING!
So 2012 was the year I discovered podcasts, or maybe it was late 2011, but whatever. WTF with Marc Maron was my gateway drug, and now I listen to 1 or 2 podcasts per day, usually while going for my evening stroll. Over the past year I've listened to a whole heaping bunch of Comedy Bang! Bang!, WTF, This American Life, Nerdist, Indoor Kids, Mike and Tom Eat Snacks, as well as every single episode of How Did This Get Made.
But my fave podcast of the last year, hands down, has been Professor Blastoff. It's a show where three friends (and Aaron) delve into matters of science, philisophy, engineering, theology, etc. I've listened to every episode and I can tell you, without a doubt, that I have learned almost
nothing. But I've had a lot of laughs. And only a little bit of heartbreak. The heartbreak mostly came in the form of everything horrible that happened to host Tig Notaro over the summer(pneumonia, c. diff, mother dying, long-term relationship breakup, a double-dose of breast-cancer. you don't wanna hear about it. but if you do, check out the album (
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/tig-notaro-live/id570071953) Live.) The other Blastronauts deserve a mention as well. David is the one who has the most genuine insight and clever things to say about whatever the topic of a given episode is, and Kyle is just straight up one of the funniest guys in the podcasting world. That guy has a neverending series of mad riddles, highly accurate impersonations, and deeply embarrasing personal stories up his sleave. Anyway, if anyone wants to check it out, the (
http://www.earwolf.com/episode/twins/) Twins episode is a good place to start (though in this one it's David who does the sharing of embarrasing stories).
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM PODCASTING IN 2013?
Scott Aukerman's brave new vision to (

What's everyone listening to these days?
My fave bad-movie podcast How Did This Get Made has reduced the number of episodes they release from once every 2 weeks to once per month, since Paul and June care more about their dumb newborn baby than ME! >:| So I've had a look around for other movie podcasts and found a couple new faves. (
http://www.flophousepodcast.com/) The Flophouse and (
http://www.nerdist.com/podcast_channel/james-bonding-channel/) James Bonding. The James Bonding guys go through and critique every Bond movie ever, starting from the first and last entries, and working their way towards the middle. For first time listeners I'd recommend (
http://www.nerdist.com/pepisode/james-bonding-0016-live-and-let-die-with-paul-f-tompkins/) one of the eps that Paul F Tompkins is on, those are a blast. The Flophouse is a more general bad movie podcast, and it is hilarious, even more so than HDTGM I dare say. Start with any episode other than one of the first 10. Elliott wasn't a part of the show back then, and that guy is
essential to the mix that makes this show great.

The old ones are returning!
Yeah, half the things I listen to have slowed their output of late.
(
http://www.thinkmcflythink.com/movie-moan-podcast/) Moviemoan got kicked off blip, then got kicked off youtube and soundcloud in short order and gave up, making only a couple of casts a year now.
Monstertalk is still going intermittently, but hit trouble when one of the regular co hosts accused the other sexual assault and harrassment, the other then counter sued back :wot: So it's down to mainly Blake now. But he was the main driving force.
I recently discovered the (
http://tetzoo.com/) Tetrapodcats, most of which goes completely over my head into Viv's territory, but is amusing to listen to.
And (
http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/sawbones) Sawbones is all about the hilarious and disturbing history of medicine.

What! I love Monstertalk, and it's always sounded to me like he hosts have had good chemistry, so that is shocking and saddening news. :(

Sawbones is good. Thanks for the tip, Muz. :)
What I've been listening to:
(http://serialpodcast.org/) Serial - I guess other American Life listeners here might've also started listening to this spin-off? Anyway, for those not in the know, this show is a murder investigation, 15 years after the murder took place. A muslim teen boy by the name Adnan got life in prison for murdering his highschool ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. But did he really do it? Sarah Koenig starts looking into the case, interviewing Adnan, and others involved, and trying to uncover the truth. It's a thrilling series because of how evenly balanced the evidence for and against Adnan seems to be stacked. One episode will reveal things that'll have you thinking the persecutor's whole case looks flawed, then the next episode something will come up that makes Adnan look very suspicious. And some episodes are just sorta spin-offs where they look into stuff that happened on the sidelines, leads that end up going nowhere but are nonetheless interesting.
(
http://www.flophousepodcast.com/)
The Flophouse - I didn't praise this enough in my last post. I love this show. The hosts are simply
on fire, every single episode. When it comes to bad movie podcasts, this one has dethroned HDTGM? as my fave.
And in the "Wonderfully-titled shows about very specific and nerdy subjects" department:
(
http://www.feralaudio.com/show/x-files-files/)
The X Files Files - Kumail Nanjiani(from the Indoor Kids podcast/stand up comedy/some TV shows) and guests watch every X Files episode, in order, and dissect them in detail. They're nearing the end of season 2 now.
(
http://hppodcraft.com/)
H. P. Podcraft - Same thing as the X Files Files, but about Lovecraft stories. I've only listened to the one about Shadow over Innsmouth yet, but it was good. The hosts are a bunch of well-read guys, and not just when it comes to Lovecraft. They bring up a lot of subtle details about the stories and connect details with other Lovecraft stories that I'd totally missed.
