I have Vista. I'd like to play a bunch of classic games (Heavy Gear II in particular), and Dosbox tends to be rather poorly optimized. Should I dual-boot with Windows 98, or use Virtual PC, or some other option?

Specs please. Also which Vista are you using - 32bit or 64bit?

32bit. Q6600, 8800 GTX, 4GB RAM.

Oh right, Dosbox would adequately fit the bill then for Dos games on those specs, you don't need to worry about optimisation with that beast.
RE: The Windows games? I've got a similar machine (XP x64, E6400 @ 3.0GHz, 8800GT, 4GB RAM) and Heavy Gear 2 (the first one as well), I'll give it a try and report back to you. Any other Windows games that you're looking at playing?
Battlezone 1 I tried recently, the best luck I had was with one of the modded versions (BzE or 1.4L, don't worry, they still require that a CD be in the drive) that've been made XP compatible and with XP32 (which I run in dual boot).

Alright, I'll give it a try. I just don't think Heavy Gear II supports DOS, and considering it has problems on XP there's no way it will work on Vista. Wing Commander IV is in the same camp, and as far as I know is very, very hard to play in Dosbox.
