Honestly, our foreign policy could be best described as a perpetual attempt to stomp out brush fires with kindling. It focuses almost exclusively on the short term, leaving any long term problems that might arise from our short term solutions as not being worth the consideration until those problems are staring us right in the face.

And yes, it is a policy very much grounded in neocon philosophy.
