I vaguely remember this being discussed before, but looking at those screenshots reminded me that everyone I've seen playing Deus Ex keeps a Meleé weapon in toolbelt slot 1. ZB's layout in the Jock screenshot above looks very much like mine also. It just seems to make sense.

I always keep my pistol in #1. I think my melee is somewhere in slots 4-7. Something like that.

My toolbelt mappings are just what feels intuitive after years of playing other FPSs. Melee weapons at the left, then pistols, then rifles, then heavy/exotic weaponry.

This is funny :) I always had the prod and a melee weapon in slots 1 and 2, and none other weapon at all. I just accessed them through the inventory menu. The rest of my toolbelt was full with multitools, lockpicks aso.
