The Holy Church of Charles Darwin.
So, I was wondering. If I started a religion with the theological premise that Charels Darwin was deity and that I was his prophet called to "interpret" his cabalistic teachings, would that mean I couldn't pray to him in school?
It's so obvious. Some preacher must have tried this by now.

Nice try, but unless you convince a majority of Darwinists to follow you, you'd just be looked upon as a lunatic fringe.
Having said that, evolutionists are in some trouble in the US because several leading Darwinists (Dawkins I believe and a few others) have said that the theory of evolution means that God cannot exist.
Of course, this is rather stupid, because it then become tantamount to a religious belief, and it allows Creationists (or Intelligent Designers or IDiots or whatever they're calling themselves these days) to challenge the teaching of evolution in schools.

I wouldnt need a majority/minority of any group, just enough crazy people with nothing better on their minds to "join" my church. Assuming the requirements for a "religion" to be recognized here in the states is based on membership. Perhaps not. A collection plate maybe? Corporal mortification?

Yes, but unless your followers constitute a huge majority of evolutionists, then people will just (rightly) see that you're trying to discredit science by annexing wacked-out religious beliefs to it.
You haven't really thought this through, chief ;).

Well you know Christans eat bread and wine during their rituals, so does that mean your not allowed to eat bread or wine in schools?
Banning religion in schools isn't the same as banning everything which a religon does.

Irrational numbers anger the gods! Put down that unit square before you bring their wrath down upon us all you fool!
edit: also starting a church based on Darwin's teachings is pretty much the worst thing that could possibly happen to the public perception of evolution in the US

Christ and the boys started out as a "lunatic fringe", so it ain't all that crazy.
He could join Rev. Moon, Brigham Young, L. Ron Hubbard, Mary Baker Eddy and the rest. Actually "The Holy Church of Charles Darwin" has a much better ring to it than Latter Day Saints, or Scientology.
