If you don't follow Beau of the Fifth Column on YouTube, you should.
His take on the matter is pragmatic and actually has a hope in hell of making real progress.

The US venerates guns like nowhere else, and I wonder if that might be part of the problem.
Like, which other country is this fucking precious about being able to own an incredibly fucking efficient murder weapon?
Fuck knives, fuck bats, fuck running people over with cars - this is being able to send a piece of metal through someone you can see as long as you take time to aim.
There's a level of agency and insulation from the victim which just isn't present in other methods of killing. It's power fantasy without the intimacy which might risk triggering humanity.
You just keeping pressing a button while people run and hide.
It takes a moment of extreme rage and turns it into a surreal mock-up of a video game where nothing matters and all there is to do is to hit as many targets as you can while the clock runs out.
Then you either let yourself be arrested, suicide by cop, or turn the gun on yourself.
It's pretty much a fucking SOP at this stage given how many mass shootings there are per year.
I barely even know what to think about it anymore.

If I was a parent in the US, I would definitely be home-schooling.

Ironically, those parents are generally the most batshit crazy and likely to have a stockpile in their basement.

Watch to the end. See who is running our country. Cohen is a genius at exposing idiocy.

Truth. And it's those people who will piss and moan the loudest about stricter gun control and march with signs that dare the government to 'pry our guns out of our cold, dead hands', while teaching their 4 yr. olds how to load and shoot a semi-automatic weapon. (
Anecdote: Awhile ago I asked a commenter, who used that slogan while commenting on a news article about stricter gun control, why he didn't just say 'Molon Labe'? His response was, 'I don't speak French or Spanish or whatever the hell that language is, I speak
AMERICAN PATRIOT!!!'.
God save us from fools and madmen. *smh*)
Afaic, the biggest problem, besides the fact that semi-automatic weapons are sold in our country at all, is the fact that since 2017 people with histories of mental illness are, once again, allowed to buy as many guns as they want. See, back in 2013 the Obama administration passed a bill prohibiting people with histories of mental illness from buying guns; in 2017 Trump repealed that bill (probably just because it had Obama's name on it, like so many other bills he repealed) and voila! Once again, the crazies could have all the AR-15s they wanted. It should be noted that less than a year after Trump repealed Obama's bill, an 18 yr. old named Nikolas Cruz bought an AR-15 and shot 17 of his classmates to death in Florida. And yeah, Cruz had a history of mental illness.
WHY TF ARE THOSE GUNS EVEN BEING SOLD, PERIOD?? Let alone sold to mentally ill people and 18 yr. old dropouts with histories of behavioral problems!! When is enough really enough?

Never. I've heard them called larpers and that certainly fits. Only it has no fun playful aspect. They imagine themselves heroes and when the shit does hit the fan they find out who they really care about.
Our heroes-

I seriously do not understand anyone that old valuing their own life that much. What the hell have we got to look forward to? Incontinence? The slow rot of our bodies until we are walking corpses? Fuck that. Give me the chance to miss that shit. I love life but it's a shit road ahead anyway. It would be nice to go out without breaking every single commandment but what the hell might as well.
About guns? We aren't going to do a damn thing. Bring up anything at all and there is a gun nut with a counter argument.
Wow. I was checking out these old posts and didn't realize I had been thinking this way that long. And here it is again. Same thing. Old guy with position of school resource officer valuing his life over kids who have so much more to go and so much more to contribute to the world. This time a whole swat team as well. Same shit over and over. Good guys with guns are like those who claim to be nice guys. Bullshit. The only thing that counts is what you do when it is you on the line. I have to work another five years. I don't have a police pension. And I know I do not seem the responsible sort. I'm only that way when it matters. Normally I resent having to be responsible. But I can fake being upstanding. I can fake sane. And I don't feel even slightly that my life is more important than a kids. I think I would make a good resource officer. I would be on time. I would never drink. I would take every course and be vigilant. I've had a really really good life. I owe it. I hope my knee holds out.

I have a kid in school but I'm not too worried about all this craziness because statistically fairly low percentage wise.
