Isn't it nice to learn new things? But, unfortunately, you missed the lesson ZB...
The lesson is that in the UK they use different words for the same things we have in the US.
UK - US
Chemist - Pharmacist
Lift - Elevator
Jumper - Sweater
Boot - Trunk
Fag - Cigarette
Trousers - Pants
Waistcoat - Vest
etc.
Also, (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephedrine#USA) Ephedrine & (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephedra#Ephedra_banned) Ephedra are in fact illegal in the US, as such. But as RBJ pointed out, there are restricted meds containing them still available. Just as several forms of methamphetamine, such as dextromethamphetamine (Desoxyn), dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine), amphetamine salts (Adderall) and others are available by highly restricted prescription-only for treatment of ADD/ADHD, Narcolepsy and Obesity.

First off - if you have congestion problems requiring constant medication with stuff like this you should probably see your doctor as something isn't right and you shouldn't have to treat it this way.
Phrenology is actually much more scientific than everyone thinks. It may have lead to a lot of pseudo-scientific racial nonsense and involved lots of poeple seeking dubious financial gain but there is more to be said about it than most people know. Its was the forerunner to neurology and in fact some of it is as scientific and correct as anything you'll get from modern medicine. Broca's speech area, for example, was discovered long before Broca (that charlatan!) came along and was discovered by scientific deduction by Spurzheim (or Gall, I forget which). You see those phrenology charts and heads with the lines all over them? Some of that stuff is for real. Those guys were the most superb neuroanatomists and their brain dissection skills were said to be mesmerisingly fabulous, even by people who scoffed at the concepts of phrenology. You won't hear this from most doctors though, because they aren't taught it and so don't know.[/geek rant]
Ms Ledd, do you guys really call vests waistcoats? What do you call waistcoats then? And chemist is a catch-all for all sorts of crap. You don't need a pharmacist to dispense much, even most, of the stuff you get in a chemists. I prefer the term apothecary anyway. :p
