Word of warning:
I bought the bundle with the SR3 dlc and Dead Island, wanting just the SR3 stuff, and I'd give away the rest. Got two codes, one for SR2, SR3, Risen 2 and Sacred 2, one for the SR3 dlc and Dead Island. However, activating the latter DID NOT update my existing copy of SR3 with the dlc. I suspect it only works with the base game activated with the first code :/

Did you check the installed DLCs list after you activated the code to see if they showed up? Sometimes, DLC doesn't download automatically on Steam until you do a cache verification.

Cache verification was the first thing I tried. No luck.
EDIT: Solved! What seemed to do the trick was to run the game and actually load a savegame.

I was in the same situation and a little worried but right-clicking on the game in the steam library and selecting "View Downloadable Content" showed that I did actually have everything added to my existing copy.
