If anyone missed the memo, WW1 flight sim (
http://riseofflight.com/) Rise of Flight operates under a "free-to-play, pay for extras" model these days.
For (
http://riseofflight.com/tryrof/en) zero dollars and 3.8 GB of bandwidth you get:
— Flyable Spad 13 and Albatros D.Va.
— Full Access to Single Player and Multiplayer Modes for each aircraft.
— Full Access to Career Mode for each aircraft.
— Full Access to Gunner Positions in Bombers and Recon Aircraft in Multiplayer.
If you wish, you can then (
http://riseofflight.com/en/store) purchase other aircraft from the official store.
Currently, (
http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=381957&sid=271574f27034176ae1abbc4d1aa217ce&f=2#p381957) you can buy the "Iron Cross Edition" for US$10, which represents a 50% discount:
Quote:
This version includes a bunch of flyable aircraft (US$21 worth) - Spad XIII, Fokker D.VII, Albatross D.Va, Nieuport 28, SE.5a, Pfalz D.IIIa, Sopwith Camel and deadly Fokker Dr.1 This is by far the best way to get into Rise of Flight.
I'm pretty sure you can simply use the serial number from your purchased copy to upgrade the free version, so the thing to do would be download the free version, find out if it runs well, and buy an ICE serial number if you're keen for more (and to support the continued development of the sim).

@Tonamel:
I gave in and picked it up as well. I'd like to try it online, as singleplayer is a bit frustratingly difficult even on normal difficulty. (Especially when you have to contend with bots who won't fucking do anything and you have to take the objectives.)

On Steam for another 12 hours:
Borderlands for $5,
Borderlands + all DLC for $7.5
If you don't have it, now's a good time.
