Goo Redux V2 up on strangeBedfellows, replacing previous zip. Rebuilt as per ZB's above post, let me know if further refinements are required/desired.

Ooh, looking nice! :thumb:
I haven't downloaded it yet (still at work), but judging from the screenshot the only complaint I might have is that the height of the bumps is too uniform. The goo almost looks extruded instead of like something that just randomly grew there. IMHO it should be at its "tallest" (but still a bit lumpy) in the thickest parts, and lower in the thinner parts.
I really should get off my ass and finish up the upgraded goo textures I've been playing with. Together with these new models the end result is going to be most excellent.

ZB, what is your view on the style of the graphics of SS2? More specifically, would you personally rather the general look be more photo-realistic, or more stylistic? For example, the portraits in the logs are all drawings, I remember seeing once or twice complaints that they should have been pictures of real people. It occurred to me that I completely disagreed, I thought that the drawing fit the general style of the graphics because SS2 looks pretty cartoony, with all the low definition models and excessive use of bright colours in the environmental textures. With Rebirth the models look a lot more rounded but not necessarily more photo-realistic, I think in general they conformed to the style of the game, and SHTUP also improved on the resolution of the textures rather than change their look.
I ask this over here rather than in a new thread or in PM because of the goo - if you look at the BOTM related textures there are some that look photo-sourced, ie. pretty realistically shaded and highlighted pile of worms etc. In the game they don't really come out like that because they are so low-res. With a higher res texture the difference is more likely to come out. Which is why I was curious. I would personally lean away from photo-realism, but that's just me. What is your inclination - a more stylistic look or as photo-realistic as possible with the Dark Engine?

My view of the SS2 graphical style is that I like it.

Yes, that (the updated goo screenshot) looks quite nice, much more like it's actually growing on the wall; although, maybe ironically, now that the model is 3D I almost wish there were margins of flat goo on the sides and in the holes on the wall so it really looks like it's "covering" the wall and will look just generally dirtier ... but no doubt this is a big improvement. Good job.

Thanks! Actually, there is flat margins on it, otherwise the alpha-blended pixels would have been rising off the wall at an angle and allowed you to see behind the goo to the pristine wall.
I can smooth it out some more, sounds like that seems to be the root of both the 'varying thickness' and the 'growing look' issues. I initially thought the rising edges didn't react enough to lighting, so I sharpened the angles and flattened the top surface a bit more. Will unfix that bit and re-up. :-)
EDIT - typo, added thanks

awesome goo! Does the goo have an animated texture btw? Should it have an animated texture?

Models updated to V3, zip replaced.
Smoothed them out, added height variation for a lumpier look.
RocketMan - They should have an animated texture by default, unless I've futzed something. They work properly here though.

Animated = ooglay
ZylonBane on 15/6/2006 at 14:08
What, you'd rather it wasn't animated?
