I'm sure to have missed a few things...
Most notably that most of the positions you've ascribed to Christians are controversial among them at absolute best and, in several cases, you're grossly outright wrong.

I'll give you that homosexuality is controversial, but 9 out of 10 mainstream, fundamentalist, denominational Christians (in other words the fucking majority) are not in favor of abortion, evolution being taught in schools, 10 commandments being moved from courthouses, public prayer being banned in schools, wide-spread access to pornography, or public protests against church functions. Why do you think guys like Robertson and James Dobson can afford to do what they do? Where do you think the conservative 50% of the country come from?
I'm not going to debate it here. I've read every fucking statistic and study you can imagine in your worst nightmares about what church people believe, how they vote, and what they watch and listen to. I know what restaurants they prefer, what clothes their kids wear, and what books they read.
Bottom line is that it hasn't turned the country into Christian Disneyland as a result of them being against the things on my list, as it seems Stronts (or Dawkins) are claiming. I'm just asking for concrete evidence that there's about to be a fundamentalist takeover because it seems to me that things are flowing the opposite direction - which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Christian disneyland would be lame because they probably wouldn't allow pirates of the caribbean (immoral men chasing unchaste women) or indiana jones (idols and such) or space mountain (too fast and exciting) or abortion or drugs.

I hear Mickey's dangerous with a coathanger and Minnie will suck any cock for a crumb or two of crack.

Okay, you need to distinguish between fundamentalist U.S. Christianity and the rest of U.S. Christianity
every single time you reference U.S. Christianity, because right now you're using them so interchangeably as to completely butcher every argument you're making.
You can't use the beliefs of one and the preponderance of the other to try and make a point. That's just illogical, but as far as I can tell it's exactly what you're doing.

1% of the U.S. population would be ~3 million people - a tiny minority, yet more than enough to fund, well, a lot. Robertson and Dobson are really not all that.

Do you seriously think that's a monolithic block? There are wings of the Republican party that don't agree on virtually anything.

It has a lot to do with that jay, yeah. If you're trying to protect a defenceless baby from wolves and lions, then it's far, far better to have two parents on good terms doing that than a single parent. Although we're still only scratching the surface :)
What's with this 'we' business? Are you a part of a research team investigating the evolution of human sexual behaviour?

I'm an atheist. I agree with people who want to get rid of "In God We Trust" on coins. I don't want prayer in schools. That's what church is for. School if for learning. I don't think we should have the 10 commandments on/in public buildings. What about all the Islamic/Buddhist/Shinto/etc people who live in this country?
Do I ever bring up God? No, but I'll argue.
Sometimes in the military, a chaplain would have a group prayer. I don't mind, as it is something that some of the people in the unit want. I don't bow my head or close my eyes though. I had a dude holler over at me during one such prayer and say, "Bow your head." I remained silent and remained calm. I went over to the dude after the prayer was over and let him know in several ways that I was an atheist, and will not be conforming to the people who are having their prayer. They can have their prayer. That's great for them! I told him if he confronts me again about something like this, I would file a complaint. Separation of church and state, after all.
Does God exist? Maybe. If he does, it's sorta like GBM said. That he was always there and created the universe at some point.
I mentioned in another thread a long time ago, I think I may have seen Jesus or God when I was in the womb. Maybe prior to being created myself. It was an experience like I knew who I was talking to, and that I had to be put some where. Jesus or God came out of my ear or head after I was placed in that place, and told me to forget everything I ever knew. Am I nuts? No, but I remember this dream or memory like it was yesterday. Shouldn't I believe in some sort of religion if I have a faint memory of being placed in the womb by God? Maybe. I'm one of those guys from Missouri (not really). You have to show me for me to believe. I partially believed when I went through some rough times in my life, like when I went to basic training. It was tough, and I asked God for some strength to pass my physical training tests. I wasn't in the best of shape, and failed several tests before. I then passed the tests. Proof? No. Maybe it was just my determination and need for a decent paying job that made me do better on the test. I'll be 36 this month, so I've probably got a long way to go before I'll see him. When/if I do, I'll let you all know if he/she exists.
