1. I agree that RavynousHunter should point out the nature of his program on a page where it's for download. Then again, if you're looking for a way to securely encrypt you're private data and download a program from a gaming page for that cause, you probably have no idea what you're doing anyway and are just trying to hide your porn from your mum. A purpose that GEP fullfills easily.
2. The pro and cons of this have all been discussed months ago when RavynousHunter started the thread. In the end, whether your belief is right or wrong doesn't matter, it's his decision how he wants to learn.
3. I was just starting to have some fun with it!

If that's a stick, you've got an entire redwood forest, Marecki.

Dear Diary: today I went on the internet to ridicule an amateur programmer's learning methods. I'm not sure if he listened to me, but at least now I can sleep tonight with a clear conscience, knowing I did the right thing!

dethtoll: What, no airplane? Don't you love me any more? :(
Aja: And that's where you're wrong, my patent-pending Ridiculomatic(TM) allows me not only to post entire novellas without engaging a single brain cell, but also magically detects when gets affected by my posts! Work on automatic E-Peen extension following the latter is ongoing.

My airplanes have been filtered, so now I just wish for a 747 to land on your house.

2. Even if he is just learning it is my belief he should try to do it by the book rather than employing the gung-ho approach. That way he is less likely to learn
bad practices;
That's where I have the MSDN to help me. I tried learning by the book for several languages, in the end, however, I find that simply doing something and "checking my work," so to speak, works far better
for me. Sure, maybe you learn better by the book, but I don't.
Now for a more asinine comment:
Go back to your college class you nancy. :laff:

PS. Ulukai: While learning through trial and error is certainly important, fields such as security are too sensitive to allow for silly mistakes - especially given books are available on- and off-line discussing best and worst practices of cryptography.
Couldn't disagree more.
But hell with it and welcome to last month. I'm not having this discussion
again for your benefit.

I agree (with Ulukai). Security is actually very little to do with encryption and anyone that accidentily decides that this program is the best way to secure government secrets probably needs their head examining anyway.
Learning a language, proper syntax and correct algorithms all at the same time is a very tall order. RavynousHunter is learning the language and I'm sure in time will concentrate on the other areas.

I'm working on a new version of the GEP, version 1.6, to be exact. It's taken quite some time, but I've finally found the parts I need to start this work in earnest.
Also, for those interested, I've started a blog for (
http://ravynousdezign.blogspot.com) Ravynous Dezign so you dudes can keep track of my progress and whatnot. Of course, I'll keep ya'll posted, but this allows me to have one nice, centralized location to keep all my progress updates on my projects; not just the GEP.
Have A Day,

Interesting... What do you think about (
http://cwe.mitre.org/top25/#CWE-327) this, then?
RavynousHunter: If you haven't done this yet, I strongly encourage you to read the whole document available under that link. It may help you a lot.
