The only issue I have with ps3`s is the price differences between the versions. Now when you consider how much say $130 AUS ($100 US roughly) would get you for a harddrive alone (200gb if I remember right, or possibly higher) I cant understand how the difference of say the 40gb and the 80gb model can be so big. Where are the extra hundreds coming into it. Thats what I want to know.
baeuchlein: I 100% agree with your point of view, and have done alot of the things you have. Except that I went and bought a ps3 (80gb model), and have bought a few blue ray movies. However I dont have a LCD television so I dont get much of a bonus out of them really.
I did the same as you on the rest though. Started with 1 floppy disk drive and 1 cdrom. Then the need for cd burners came about, so I got one of those too, effectively giving me 2 cdroms. This way it stayed until dvd player programs for the pc became quite good + I got my ps2 chipped, so there was the need for a dvd burner as well, so off I went and bought a dvd burner. With the move to dvd I also moved across all of my backup copies of things from old cds to dvds due to the higher storages and space saving that it gives.
1 dvd = the capacity of 7 of my old backup cds (14 cds if it was a dual layer dvd). Thats a huge space saver. For now I have no interest whatsoever in getting a blue ray player for my pc if there was one. The format wars have only just now ended, and as such theres still a long way to go and the price of them is far too high for now. With time the speeds of the drives will improve and prices will drop as they become more mainstream. When prices move to acceptable levels then I`ll consider getting one.
