The Fighting TTLGers present: Arma 3 (a TTLG Coop Saturdays spin-off) - by Thirith

Heya Arma-heads,
I know that I've announced a coop session for this coming Saturday, but in view of today's events I have to admit that I don't particularly feel like virtual warfare this week. I'll schedule the session for a later date. I hope that no one's been really looking forward to some light combat the day after tomorrow.

Short update: I've heard from a couple of sides now that after several years of Arma coop sessions they're somewhat Arma-ed out. I am still planning for a final session, ideally so that as many of the people who could only join every now and then can be there. However, I don't expect that this'll be before next month or possibly May, depending on how the situation develops. I'll keep everyone updated.

I hope we can find another regular big co-op game. Looking forward to our EPIC FINALE.
In the meantime, does anyone wanna play some Human Fall Flat, oooooor hear me out (
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1828310/Skate_or_Dont/) Skate or Don't demo? It's a game where you skate, or don't. Whenever you start it you're instantly skating with everyone else in the world who's playing it. And you just skate down a mountain. And that's it. Thank You For Your Consideration.

After this weekend I should again be around for the occasional Saturday session, and I'd definitely be up for more flat-falling. When I have a moment, I'll also check out Skate or Don't.
And yes, I also hope that we'll find another co-op game that'll accommodate more than four people. The Arma moments I enjoyed most over the last few years were usually the ones where there were more of us, and the frustrations we've had with Arma were usually amplified when the group was small (not least because it'd happen much more often that everyone is down at the same time).

I've been curious about 1-vs-group games like Among Us & Propnight.
Well the killer rotates & it's coop for the group at least.
I don't have a strong opinion about it though.

A new ARMA game came out in Early Access yesterday.

Apparently it's kinda a testbed for ARMA 4, and quite limited in content at this point. No singleplayer, just multiplayer right now, kinda crashy, slow. Looks pretty tho. Probably best to leave it alone for now, but I'm curious to see how it develops.

Hmm, I remember when the X series had this kind of test game for X4 called "X Rebirth", and it was a fiasco. It ended up being a terrible & buggy game.
It looked like X4 was such a massive project that they needed a quick cash-grab while it was still in development, and they were trying to test run some halfbaked ideas, or maybe they'd developed some tech they couldn't use for X4 but thought they could at least get some return for it.
I'm not saying that this has to be like that kind of situation, but the idea of issuing a sequel that's not the old version, but it doesn't take a new number either, it's just given a new name, that's kind of a red flag.
That said, the games between GTA 3 and 4 were good games, and in the X-series case, X4 did turn out to be a pretty cool game, and maybe X Rebirth played a role in helping that happen. But on its own it was a bad game. I think the lesson is you'd want to wait for the reviews to come in and maybe not pre-order it like I did for X Rebirth.

I'm generally interested, if perhaps not right now - Eastern European Cold War-inflected warfare isn't what I'm looking for right now (or heavily militarised combat in general), but I am curious to see what they've done in terms of the engine and controls. I think I'll give it a month or two, but if people are liking where this is going, I'll probably check it out.
